Amal and George Clooney welcomed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry at Villa Oleandra in Laglio, Italy 20.08.2018

More details have surfaced about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s private Italian getaway with George and Amal Clooney in Lake Como this weekend. In addition to bonding at the Clooneys’villa in Laglio, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also enjoyed hangouts by the pool, a private cruise, and indulgent dinners, Chi magazine reports. George even showed off his motorcycle collection to Harry and played him in a basketball game.

“Amal and Meghan spent much of their days lounging by the pool together and, of course, playing with the twins,” royal correspondent Omid Scobie told. The two are said to have known each other for a while after being introduced by a mutual friend.

On Saturday night, the Clooneys reportedly had a dinner party featuring food from their favorite restaurant, Il Gatto Nero. Scobie added that George “threw on several banquets” for his royal guests during their stay, but the actor’s hospitality didn’t stop there.

“Clooney actually [flew] them over to Como from London on his private jet and then an unmarked motorcade transported them from the airfield to the home with, of course, their protection officers in tow,” he told ABC.

News of Harry and Meghan’s stay with the Clooneys broke yesterday, according to a report from Chi Magazine. “They spent the entire weekend at their home and enjoyed the privacy and security the Clooneys had for them there,” a source told the tabloid.

If George and Amal’s dinner parties were anything like the royal wedding reception (where the actor reportedly poured shots of tequila for guests and danced with Kate Middleton), Harry and Meghan were definitely in for a treat.

  1. I am so happy that you blog about Amal Clooney because she is literally the best. Her human rights work is amazing and she is always looking out for the common good. I hope to hear her speak one day! I have a lot of questions to ask her about her work, motivation, and why she chose the career she has. Have a great day and your blog is sooo fantastic!

    1. I would be interested in hearing why you think Amal’s human rights work is the best. While she has certainly become engaged in some human rights work in recent years, I have heard lawyers describe her earlier work more as international criminal law. For myself, I think people like Nasrin Sotoudeh is one of the human rights lawyers that would be on the top of my list. Ms. Sotoudeh lives in Iran and practices in a society that is repressive of basic human rights. I think that requires a person of extraordinary skill, bravery and moral courage. She has defended opposition activists and currently sits in jail. She was jailed because she removed her hijab in public and also represented a group of women who oppose the mandatory dress guidelines for women. There are other charges made by the gov’t. re: propaganda that aren’t worth mentioning. I have never been to one of Amal’s public speaking engagements, but I would be interested if her presentations include the work of women like Ms. Sotoudeh.

      1. You managed to make yourself look like someone who is only interested in promoting this attorney sotoudeh. Or are you actuallly this person and putting in a shameless free advertisement for yourself?

    2. Nati For all the talk about Amal being followed by the paparazzi, why have we not seen a picture of her and George in weeks. This is because she is photographed when she wants to be photographed and is NOT photographed when she does not want to be photographed. The silly and self-serving argument that Amal aimlessly goes about her business and is tailed by the press is so ridiculous it’s amount to Jackson and the Amaloonies’ #fakenews.

      1. Agree with Darcy. Everything she has done since the day she married GC is for self promotion….
I’m actually shocked that they were GC and AC were asked to be godparents for Prince Harry And Meghan since they’ve known each other for only a few years if that. If I were an old and close friend of either PH or MM, I’d be highly offended. Also, I’ve noticed that Rance Gerber and Cindy Crawford have been thrown to the curb so to speak, now that GC and AC are now having tea with royals….

  2. the inside of the villa looks so rustic. Far more than I expected. I wonder if Amal has since put her more Luxe touch on it? Would love to be a fly on the wall for the convos they have with Harry and Meghan. On the face of it they’d all seem to have little in common…except money and fame?!

    1. I think George has more much money (from tequila buz) than Harry. Harry’s money comes from taxpayers and his grandmother really…
G&A have the money and H&M have a Royal attractive social status (very cool in Europe).
Both couples are celebrities (George & Meghan have cinema & entertaining professions), their lives are very desired by cheap magazines and both are trying to keep up with fashion & fame, so they have a lot in common :- ))) It is perfect !!!

  3. Let’s say that Harry has money but not that much for his lifestyle, so he needs to surround himself with some rich good friends who will help the couple keep a high standing life without paying too much for it. We had British friends in the past and I know they are real profiteurs…We got rid of all of them. So I think that the invitation to the wedding of the Clooney couple was not completely innocent. They both need each other for money and prestige. The only thing that irritates me slightly is that of course they all present themselves as big philantorpists. It’s all so fake but people Believe them.

    1. Putting out the image of being a big philanthropist takes your celebrity status to whole another level and can also be a good tax shelter. Many celebrities do it since their publicist tells them its great publicity. But if they are using self/serving and narcissistic motives to do good in the world, that’s still a good thing. In Palm Beach, there are about 150 charity balls during the 6 month peak season each year. Most of these people are all about using a charitable cause to enhance their public image. Very few of them are genuine and would actually donate if they didn’t get the high level of publicity in return. Many are not nice people either. But the fact remains that 90 percent of the monies collected for charitable causes around the world come out of Palm Beach.

      1. Agree Angela. Most celebrities call themselves philanthropist because they give some money away. They are millionaires and let’s be frank, Thank God for the US Tax Relief for charitable donations, otherwise you wouldn’t see a penny from anyone. As you say, this also to increase their popularity as “generous humanitarians”.
Comparing with his fortune (Tequila business), Clooney does not give generous charitable donations, instead he was also a huge political/monetary
“supporter” of Hillary and he will do so again next elections. More “donations” involved in politics, than in charity. Let’s say he “generously” buys his way into the White House (he was a frequent visitor when Obama remember?) and now his way into the Royal’s life ?.

  4. It would seem to me that with the connection of “public works,” both Amal and Meghan have common interests. They are also women who had successful careers and were then both thrown into the limelight based on their marriages. Amal is active from the legal side and Meghan from the philanthropy/public attention side. Both have had a presence at the United Nations. My feeling is that if you have some type of “presence” in the popular press, it is helpful for these issues to be mentioned for the attention it generates for those causes. To bring attention to a worthy cause is a good thing, rather than bringing attention to just one’s person/personality.

  5. Well said Leigh Ann, your letter shows you have a healthy and balanced outlook on life. I have not been on the post for a while, and was dissapointed with a lot of the cynical, negative remarks about a woman we all find interesting either through fashion, beauty, intellect, causes etc. I personally will not waste my valuable time unless it is for good or pleasure or constructive criticism.,I think this site used to be more a forum for commenting on Amal’s fashion choices, and some of her legal work, but unfortunatley a few green eyed monsters that don’t even know each other are using it is as a right wing platform to express their negative, cynical opinions which sound more jealousy orientated than fact based. If the before mentioned start looking at life with the attitude of the glass half full rather than the glass half empty they may not feel the need to judge and berate and compare people that are basically unknown to them, have done no harm and are not present to defend themselves.

    1. Haha. It’s patriarchy to say, just because a woman disagrees with another woman or or critical, said woman is jealous. It’s the rubber stamp of excuses when you don’t know the truth.

How do you know Leigh Ann has a balanced look on life? How do you know any woman who has been critical of Amal is jealous? How do you know the intent of another soul person unless you are that person?

It’s presumptuous and ignorant. Amal is not a god. She’s a person. All the Amal-worshippers should recognize it. She loves the attention. But pretends she doesn’t – this inauthenticity is what I dislike. But you’ll just say I’m jealous.
