Amal Clooney in Diane Von Furstenberg at Villa d’Este, Italy 11.08.2018

Amal and George Clooney were spotted arriving at Villa d’Este with friends.

Instead of opting for a little black dress, Amal stepped fearlessly into summer in this pleated Lillie silk chiffon maxi dress from Diane von Furstenberg. Adorned with a Sunlight print, this floor-length piece made a memorable entrance. All eyes were on Amal.

    1. Nati – do you know why Amal loves having attention on her so much? If she were so self-confident and self-assured wouldn’t she be more modest? Thank you for responding.

      1. She is George Clooney’s wife, enough to be in the center of attention. She is tall too and very smart. If you want modesty or humility you don’t choose George Clooney as husband.

      2. Talli- How do you know that Amal likes having attention on herself? How do you know she is no self-confident or self-assured? How do you know she is immodest and not conforming to the sexual mores of our time? I am puzzled by your questions.

I have no idea what Nati means. Modesty and humility have nothing to do with one’s height.

      3. I do agree. You marry a rich and famous Hollywood “celebrity” if you want to be the center of attention. Period…
There has never been one once of modesty/humility in the rich and famous George, so why expecting it in his partner ? They both want/love the same thing: fame, and they have been very successful so far :- ))
By the way, having body guards 24×7, paparazzi at your door steps, wearing haute couture for free and being millionaire (thanks in large to Tequila biz) can give you the most powerful and surreal self-confidence feeling to anyone LOL :- ))))

      4. She’s just walking into a restaurant (looking amazing I might add). The photo has obviously been taken from a fair distance, I doubt she can even see the photographer, (or stalker with a cell phone.) The type of people who love attention are the ones who post a selfie of their butt every day or send out name-calling Tweets.

      5. Talli, I really do not think that self-assurance and self-confidence has something to do with attention seeking….. in this case – . A lot of people need attention, because they love to be in the centre of interest. Some do not like it and they live another life. Julia Roberts could be every day in magazines and newspapers for example, But she does not like it, so she goes to these restaurants without being photographed, because – reporters, magazines and news papers etc. are not informed by her management.
Amal and Georg walk like queen and king into these premises, so this belongs to their public life and they want to be seen like this. The fiirst years of their marriage he wore normal clothes, now he has to dress up. It is ok, if he likes it.
Above all, who would dress up and wear so much make up and have the hair always be styled that much, if she did not want to be photographed……?????? Please let`s be realistic

  1. As far as I can see Amal looks very good, wears the dress better as the model, looking more glamorous. George looks much better dressed in his formal suit.

  2. Regarding the dress itself, I see it more as beachwear than a dinner dress due to the transparent skirt. The color- which I call “stoplight yellow”- is something that not many can wear. I think this color works only for skin with yellow undertones. I know this is retro… but.I had no idea that the DVF label was still active.

Whatever size Amal is wearing is too small for her. I know she has worn yellow several times, but since I see her as a “Winter” yellow just doesn’t complement her at all. This color will garner attention though; it’s not subtle.

    1. I don’t see this DVF as a “beach” dress.. At least in my book, a $1K summer dress is not for a beach. However, yes, it is an attention catcher. I can see the rest of the guests at the restaurant wearing regular clothes and they all turning heads at this couple surrounded by body guards and cameras and the catchy DVF long dress. Obviously.. they are the “Clooneys”, the “stars” hahaha

      1. I guess she’s missing the (beach) hat, but Shutterstock has a very similar dress (color, general design). Google: Carefree Beautiful Fashion Blonde Female Beach Stock..Shutterstock

The photos have a feel of that scene from My Fair Lady at Ascot when Eliza Doolittle and Professor Higgins arrive!

  3. Gorgeous dress. Little tight across the chest maybe but not terribly small. First thing she has worn in a long time that I’ve actually liked.

      1. Lol..that’s so true. But I don’t think she intentionally pushes it forward. It’s the wayher body is shaped with hip bones protruding forward..

      2. I suspect that in her mind she imagines she is in a runway because regular woman don’t do the model kind of walk pushing hips forward and shoulders back. She is a street model :- )))

      3. maybe was just the angle of the picture… i was also noticing a biger bustier… but again, these pictures are dark. They made some beautiful babies so another set of twins would be ok 🙂

  4. Beautiful dress that fits Amal perfectly. Love the yellow/gold for summer. Amal seems to be able to wear any color. I am envious.

The recovery from bone contusions takes months to heal and hurts a lot. To me, George looks like he is doing as well as can be expected given the date of the accident.

  5. Can’t help buy feel sorry for them – they are like animal exhibits or “curiosities” – everyone just stares – they seem trapped in a little bubble wherever they go – no opportunities for anonymity, no chance meetings or encounters or conversations with complete strangers, just a lack of genuine spontaneity in living daily life…everything and everyone around them must go through “security clearance” – what an awful way to live – does it get repetitive and boring, knowing that everything has to be pre-planned and scheduled and the people you meet can never be spontaneous genuine connections? Your clothes, make-up and demeanor always being analysed and your pictures becoming are a commodity. No privacy except when in the walls of your own home, and even then, wondering all the time about the paid help. I wonder if they feel stifled and trapped.

      1. Yes they can have privacy when they want. As they do sometimes when they disappear from the public eye. Look at all the other famous celebrities and how they discrete some of them are. The exceptions the kardashians. When the Clooney’s want to be seen, they make sure of it. Most of it is planned with no accidents.

    1. Feel sorry ? They love the “staring”, the flashes, the pictures next day everywhere and being center of attention. This is part of their lives and professions: keeping the fame and popularity alive.
      Both need it.
Otherwise they would have dinner at their villa with all their friends cooked by the best Italian chefs.

    2. More than “security clearance” I would say that everyone around them must go through a tight “confidentiality agreement” to make sure there is not any leak.
They are millionaires with political aspirations, so they do serious business :- ))

  6. Yet another dinner? Why are they never seen attending a theatre play or going to the opera? Something of cultural value?

The gown is nice, DvF has been a classic since i was young (which was some time ago) – but it is over the top for a simple dinner.

      1. So you suggest that they only invite the paparazzi for being photographed for having dinner, but not when attending cultural events which include some intellect?

You are practically stating that they do actually deliberately intend to be seen as people of rather shallow intellect? Now, that amazes me, but it is the logical consequence of your posting.

It is part of the process of keeping up with being a celebrity :- ))))))

    2. I don’t think George was ever into doing much of cultural value, even before they got married. Amal and her family admit they are partners. I think they enjoy dining out, drinking and being SEEN!

  7. I love the dress and color, especially the whimsy and lightness at the bottom. I agree it would be hard to cultivate new friendships wondering if people liked you for who you really were or were just anamored by your celebrity. It’s probably why celebs hang out with each other.

    1. I don’t think celebrities worry about “friendship” Lulu, when the key to their success is celebrity networking. There is plenty of celebrities around them and all want the same thing: publicity, not exactly “friendship”.

  8. Hi Nati,
One correction: you wrote that the dress is silk. It is not, at least according to the description from your link. The dress is mostly cotton, with some elastane.

  9. The the new blog design is great.

Even if George is unhappy or Amal for that matter – a break-up is not an option until the kids are at least 6 or 7. I also don’t think George or Amal want any more kids. That would cramp their style.

    1. Marriage can be a better business than the Tequila buz, so they won’t break up.
The kids, another business, but just once, I presume she didn’t enjoy being hidden and away from the cameras/public during the “pregnancy” process. Probably painful.

    1. I am pretty sure she would never feel “miserable” anywhere as long as she is all nicely dressed up, makeup, hair, jewels done and she is surrounded by people staring at her, bodyguards and photographers/press. I am not even adding George to the “happy” picture. Sometimes she parties in London with VIPs without him but her mother. bodyguard(s) and press all around her.
She has already accomplished celebrity and glamour (although not exactly on her own), now she just needs to maintain her status :- )))

  12. Honestly, having stayed at the villa d’Este and eaten in this restaurant outside (even if it is gourmet cuisine) I can say that Amal is overdressed. Check also the other people seated. I wore a Missoni dress and I was still the most dressed around. This DVF dress would have been suited if some special event had been going on, but it doesn’t seem to. There’s nothing more boring than the villa d’Este…

  13. I would like to comment on Nati’s Tweet(s) about Meghan & Harry supposedly staying with Amal and George at Lake Como. More media outlets are now carrying this story. The reporting of this story seems odd to me. Even People sites ABC News as a source in its article and then makes a very brief mention of an un named source. Harper’s states that George flew the royal couple in his plane…I can’t believe this as I am sure for security reasons that only British military pilots are authorized to transport any member of the royal family by air. I am not buying it.
