Amal Clooney spotted at LAX airport 11.05.2015

Amal Clooney was spotted leaving LAX airport yesterday. She wore a casual outfit. Just love the cut baker cap.

      1. I did have someone named ‘Amal’ reply to one of my posts….lol.
        You never know. 😉

      2. Natzi3872 where is Amal’s comment to Sophie’s post? Or did you just simply not like the fact that both Amal and Sophie were stating the fact that AC has fallen a victim to high end fashion?!! Best regards .

      3. You are right Esperanza!!! I did post a comment yesterday about AC as a reply to Sophie’s post and I don’t see it anywhere, as a matter of fact even Sophie’s comment has disappeared…lol ..did u seriously call her natzi3872 😂😂😂

    1. I think so, too! In my opinion, several times there were some allusions or references regarding Amal after comments on this blog 🙂 ! I think that she reads this website – without any doubt.

      1. Yes, that was my thought too. She seems to have taken my hint about not bearing midriff… but then she goes and wears that terrible nude camisole underneath – even worse! I think she just needs to put that top to rest. I have another lace top from this year’s collection – it’s very lovely. Amal, if you’re reading this, get the new season lace top – it’s slightly longer!

      2. I understand Jane, but you are telling her to change the top.. hahah dont you think she likes that top? That is why she wears it!! I and, i am sure many others, love that top. Not to go on air plane for me, but still a great top and she has a great belly to wear it short. I am not crazy about the nude tank under it though, and maybe she worn it because she would be cold in the plane, but i would not had chosen the white top to start with, however i love it, it is feminine and delicate.

I love that Amal always leaves a very feminine touch in her choices. I doubt she would listen to you or anyone’s advises, she does and wears what she wants and feels good to her, it seems. i would not hold my breath thinking that she is reading this blog or any other site….i hope she ins’t, for her own good 😉 Besides, only WE, have time to waste like this 😉

      1. come one now, you guys wanted her to repeat her outfits, and now that she does you suggest that she put it to rest?? People are never happy!!

AMAL dear, if you ever read this blog (i discourage you from reading any publications though) please do not pay attention to ANYONE!! Just ignore it all and live your life, otherwise you will go crazy trying to please everyone. People are never satisfied and will always complaint about something. Just be yourself and that will be good enough:) ❤

      2. Actually I am consistent, Nadia. I never liked that top! I’m not telling her to put all of her clothes to rest and never repeat an outfit. I wish people would stop making straw man arguments.

  1. I know you love the cap, but in this instance I think it just looks silly and contrived on Amal. I also have come to believe that this trouser cut does not flatter her. I think she is better in a straight leg or skinny pant/jean. Just sayin’…

  2. Like most women she has things she likes and wears them again. We don’t see her in her private time to see how often she repeats her clothing.

    1. I’m beginning to think looking tired is her new “work look”. Maybe “working” doesn’t agree with her anymore? I’m not being facetious here – but I’m getting the impression that she gets very stressed by her work and doesn’t shine as she should. I’m wondering if there is some external (and perhaps internal) pressure to start living up to the expectations the padded CV created. She’s a smart woman, the irony of her predicament cannot have been lost on her. And if George would just shut up with all the overinflated “she is so smart” bull dust, perhaps the poor woman could find her confident feet and not walk with dread into her next job. He keeps inflating expectations and she keeps tripping over them. George should just let her work speak for itself as his confabulations just make her look worse than she is bce he overinflates expectations of her ability. Poor woman has her own perfectionism to deal with – doesn’t need her husband’s helping hand to raise the bar on everyone else’s expectations of her.

      1. Nati, I see you’re hesitating publishing my comment above. Take your time to think on it. It’s written in her defence – George should know better than to do this to his spouse. He’s not a 24 year old spring chicken in relationships. Golden Rule in marriage to a professional is – don’t talk about your spouse’s work. It’s always the uneducated partners that don’t seem to get this rule.

      2. I don’t think you should be fooled, she is probably a lot stronger than you think and a lot more confident too. Otherwise she would have stopped practicing law a long time ago already. Remember she represented Assange and Timoshenko? Huge pressure there and she looked tired on camera there too. Working hard does that to you, even though you can handle it. 🙂
And I do think that Amal checks this website but I think it’s highly unlikely that she posts comments on here. 🙂

      3. Jon321, I completely agree about George needing to stop inflating Amal’s resume. To continue the comments on Nati’s previous post, there is an interesting interview with Dinah Rose, who as ESR pointed out, was the real lead on the Julian Assange case, on what it takes to become a top-level barrister: http://www.chambersstudent.com/where-to-start/newsletter/the-big-interview-dinah-rose-qc. She talks about having to leave her family and lock herself in a hotel room for 6 weeks to work on a case at one point, and how a truly successful woman barrister needs a “house husband” to take care of the family so she can shine professionally. (In fact, Rose’s husband, a successful TV producer, actually “gave up work in order to help raise the couple’s two young children. ‘He just lifted a huge burden of anxiety from me and really liberated me to focus on my career,’ she said, ‘and that’s an enormous gift to give someone.’)

If this is indeed true and Amal wants to be at the top of her field, she is going to have to make some serious choices — like Hollywood and the fashion stratosphere vs work, and taking more than a week away from George (something they reportedly have vowed not to do) to focus on her cases.

      4. Janet, I’ll let you in on a trade secret. All of us high tier professionals with children, be we male or female, at some point need to delegate child care responsibilities to our better halves and lock ourselves in a hotel room in order to pass medical specialist exams or prepare for heavy court cases. There are only two professional areas that require that level of dedication – medicine and law. And if you haven’t done it, and secured your place in the hierarchy by your early 30s, you’re looked at as being “drifting dead wood” in those professions. No matter how highly people will publicly speak of medical registrars still in their late 30s, or junior lawyers still in their late 30s, in the ‘real world’ of our professions, those juniors, still training in their late 30s, are going no where fast. The only people that get impressed by their qualifications are those that have no idea how the legal and medical professions work.

      5. I think she does looks tired because she probably is!!!!she’s been to…how many events this last 10 days? Having to smile and be polite and nice to everybody!!!!Give her a break!!!!She is about to board….when I have to fly, I usually wear sweatpants and comfy clothes…so her clothes are just fine for her trip…she is not going to dinner!!!I don’t think it has anything to do with going back to work or anything like that!!!Judging her on her clothes when she is going somewhere like the MET or a big celabration or sth is one thing…but judging her when she is out for choirs or getting an airplane (which is somewhere everyone dresses simpler and toned down) is another matter.

      6. As I commented on her press conference a few weeks back, Amal is clearly the type who is “stressed” by work. I commented then, and stand by it now, that it isn’t the paparazzi that make her stressed – she seems more comfortable on a red carpet than she is in a courtroom. She seems to find her work very stressful and it shows. Make no mistake, a barrister’s work is stressful – although she isn’t working at anywhere near the level of the typical junior, so why is she so stressed?

I agree with Jon… I suspect the huge expectations comments by George place upon her do not help matters. He said once that she represents people at the ‘international court of appeal’ and ‘saves lives’. Well. First, there is no international court of appeal – he meant the ECtHR in Strasbourg. Secondly I am not sure he could substantiate the claim that Amal has ‘saved lives’. Law is very rarely about saving lives. That is what Doctors do. She should spend a little more time educating George on what she actually does for a living, because his comments aren’t doing her PR (or her stress levels) much good.

      7. Wonderful and important points, Jon and Janet. It would take a tremendously determined woman to have both success in work and a good marriage. (I just checked out Dinah Rose: a real powerhouse indeed!) What Amal is facing – no matter how glamorous – is harder than what most professional women would ever have to face: a young career, a new marriage, media scrutiny, Hollywood frenzy, popular expectations, etc.

I have a question about her style. It is a genuine question, since this is something I have to face as a professional woman, though on a much, much, much smaller scale.

Is Amal not risking not being taken seriously by her professional peer by dressing too fashionably? I can understand a barrister dressing very well, i.e. in Chanel jackets and Chloe suits. In fact, I can picture a professional woman dressing like Phoebe Philo at work: understated yet chic. But Amal is far more adventurous in her fashion taste.

Would it not make her colleagues feel she is paying a little too much attention to her appearance, hence not someone to be taken fully seriously? Dressing well at work is more like having a uniform, no matter how expensive (or not) the clothes might be. It should not draw attention. I would not dress the way Amal does, even in my off time – even though I do like many of her outfits – because it might make me seem frivolous.

      8. I totally agree with you on this one Jon321, George needs to keep out of her work, his casual but often comments, which some times are not quite accurate on details of her work, needs to be kept private. She does not looks like she wants to talk about it or she would had accepted the hundreds of interviews offered to her. George is not Justin Beeber and Amal is not Selena Gomes. They are a mature couple and he needs to go about his business and let hers alone. I totally get your point.

      9. Grace – someone mentioned this on another post and I have been thinking about it. The Bar is a sober place, and Amal is always careful to dress professionally on work engagements. I am not sure that what she wears undermines her professional credibility. Barristers are self-employed, I know many a barrister who dress ‘down’ in chambers when not meeting clients (though not quite to this extent!)

There is no question that she is losing credibility, however. It is not what she wears, but the amount of time she spends not working which is undermining credibility. People want a good advocate, and the best barristers are hard-working (at least until they take silk, at which point they can work less and maintain their reputation, though few do). The amount of work you do, and therefore the experience you gain, is a good reflection of a barrister’s ability. So few will want a ‘part-time’ counsel, which is what Amal seems to be.

George’s public comments about her work also undermines her credibility. It is just incredibly unprofessional.

She will get cases because of her profile from now on. Clients who want a discreet operator will not take Amal. The vast majority of people do not want their business splashed across the papers, so that limits the pool somewhat.

      12. ESR, my suspicion is she has not enlightened George as to the true nature of her standing in the legal profession. I have multiple theories on why this would be, and how this came about, it certainly serves a purpose to keep him in the dark, but as I’m not in their relationship, I can’t settle on which it is.

I’ve heard him give interviews and every time he talks about her work, he sounds like an ignorant fool.

As to the suggestions that Amal “doesn’t have the time” to look at Nati’s blog – can I ask – what do you think she’s doing every time she’s on a treadmill, having her nails done, hair blow dried, make up put on…..she’s not reading a textbook guys….she’s either flipping through past editions of Vogue, reading the Daily Mail or Nati’s blog. This is a woman who wears inappropriate clothing in winter to make it into a magazine. Celebrities may be told not to read their publicity, but it’s their publicity that fuels their behaviours. It’s circular.

I have no doubt she’s on that plane to Belfast counting down the hours to reading our next entries! Her mobile phone is never too far from her hand. She’s as addicted to the convenience of technology as the rest of us. And ESR – I bet she’s busting her brains to work out who you are!!

    2. I mentioned this before but I think this is her normal look. She appears to be wearing very little make-up…especially around the eyes. She has dark circles around her eyes naturally….as many of us do. We are so used to seeing celebrities with lots and lots of makeup (+ photoshop, + special lighting + false eyelashes ++++) that we think they all look bad/tired without it….when actually, they just look normal.

  3. Love the cute top, but not the beige shirt she is wearing under the top. I would like the top being a bit longer and Amal wearing it with a beige bra only or a shirt, that would not show because of the longer top.

  4. We don’t know how many times Amal has worn the top. We’ve seen it once before when she was caught on camera. I wouldn’t read too much into why she’s wearing the top. She’s not wearing much makeup and she does look a bit tired. She looks relaxed and natural.

  5. I’m very confused by this outfit…

The tartan cap – I agree with Psemsk and Helen. It doesn’t do anything for AC or the outfit. It sits on her head…rather than her ‘wearing’ it….and she is someone who can wear hats really well I think.

The coat – Wow! It’s delicious! But not with this outfit. Love the coat….in any color.

The beige shirt under the white one – I guess she is wearing the beige shirt so she can remove the Zara white one while on the plane so she is comfy (I totally get it)….plus, so the paps’ camera angle doesn’t show her bra (perfectly understandable as they will do anything to get an embarrassing shot of celebrities)…but then why wear this particular white shirt at all?
I think the white top over the beige one is a mishmash.
There are a million white shirts that are less see through that would have looked wonderful on her. (I can only think that she’s trying to make some people on this blog happy by wearing the Zara top 😉 )
But seriously, last June when she wore this Zara top, she looked fantastic.

To me, there seems to be too much going on in this outfit….it’s all over the place.

PS…Nati….it’s amazing how you identify pieces with so little to go on. Kudos to you.

Did she tell you that? Or are you Amal yourself? After all, only Amal herself have “access” to her undisclosed thoughts and ideas. Why are you assuming that I am Amal when you are the one confidently enlightening us with her thoughts, motives, and personality. Based on your comment, you are the only who seems to know her more, or is close, very close to her. there are many things in life that leave me confused because the irony in them is so overpowering, and this in one of them. 6. Well I didn’t know that it was a joke. Maybe I missed the humor in this “joke” because I didn’t see the ones on the other end of the joke responding with smiley faces. The “joke” you are taking about seemed instead like a passive-aggressive response, something I see many here are professional at writing. Or maybe surgeons, rocket scientists, and Harvard professors joke in a different way than us regular people. Maybe they come up with these jokes when they are locking themselves in hotels while their husbands quit their jobs to stay with the kids. See my husband can’t quit his job. He wishes! And I can’t go to a hotel to focus on my work. I have to do it on the dining room table. Sometimes the sofa if my back hurts.
Also, you don’t need to be related to someone to defend him or stand up for him. what’s so baffling about this? I thought this is a straightforward concept. Simple enough to teach it to preschoolers. Sometimes, its even instinctual. Have you ever seem a kid punching other kid for stealing his friends’ crayons. Oh, and you think I’m taking things too personally. maybe I am. Maybe if it wasn’t Amal, it would have been me. See for some people, fame comes suddenly, out of now where. So who knows, maybe one of you ladies will become famous one day. Oh that would be fun!

  8. This outfit makes no sense to me. I don’t understand mixing a plaid hat with a lace top and metallic brogues and a pastel coat. Her outfit is having an identity crisis. I think this lace top was the same she was spotted wearing in London and it showed her mid riff so perhaps she wore the camisole to not allow any skin to show but the combo missed the mark because the top looked fabulous with the flowered jeans last summer. I’m sorry but aside from the white asymmetrical top with skinny jeans and her met gala gown, I’m not very impressed with her fashion sense lately.

A truly stylish woman has consistency in her look. The contrast between her elegant clothing and this junky ‘style’ is much too vivid. It makes her seem less than the smart, coherent person she surely must be. If she puts together these strange combinations, and others help choose the better looks, she needs to get more advice. She has the capacity to look absolutely stunning AND original. This ain’t that. But far more important is the appearance of anorexia. Is she OK, health-wise?

The nude undershirt is probably to help keep Amal warm on the flight home. It can get pretty chilly on airplanes sometimes, and she has no sleeves or adipose tissue to keep her cozy!

Seriously, she has a life!

      1. Nati, unfortunately there are some commentators in your blog that no mater how articulated they are (example jon321 but there are others, you know who you are! ) it seems they have a hidden agenda. No matter how they struggle to say anything good about Amal, they delight themselves in putting her down. I did not think you intended to make a blog for haters to come here and bash Amal on her physicality. That is not fair! it is pure bullying.

They criticize her on everything. That is not reflective of someone who would be here to support her. I think you are an unconditional Amal supporter and many here are, who are willing to refrain from making comments beyond normal fashion and news. It is ok to take opinions on topics about her too, but with good taste and not to create a case to put her down. Some here, even though they are so good with words (at least they think they are) and seems very smart, they also seem to have a covert hostility against Amal that easily comes out. They think that they are making brilliant comments but in fact, their hostility comes out stronger than their well placed words, they are not fooling anyone, they just want to find ways to criticize Amal. I find it disgusting when anyone take hard criticism over peoples physical appearances.

I dont know Nati… but unless there is a way for you to monitor the comments, there will be more and more the type of commentators like those on DM site. It is becoming annoying to have to constantly be putting someone on check because they are stepping into the mean, belittlement line, these people are not fun to read, they just full of verbose to mask their hostilities.

Jon321, you think you are so smart and all, but i tell you, you are becoming very boring with your same bashing, and ESR, stop being the devils lawyer all the time. And Italian Bird, you were nice in the begin but it seems you are now “hanging out” with the wrong crowd here and is taking sides with the jon321 and her kind.

I just wish this blog were for people who wanted to be more supportive of Amal. She already has so many haters at DM website, why not have only her fans and supporters here? Filter the overly-physical-beauty-demanding-crowd.

I know the ones i mentioned will crash this post whit their “defense” but i dont care, i got your game, you dont fool me, so go one and verbose as much as you want i am not going to read it anyways.

  17. Hi everybody,
it´s enlightening and fun to read your witty comments! I agree with the critism about her outfit but she´s not “official” when she travels so it´s perfectly ok to dress the way she does. My suggestion- this blog set up a company “Counselling de Luxe” because I think most of you are really good observers and seem to understand quite well what´s going on with lovely Amal.
I really think Amal had no idea who she got married to, perhaps she was overwhelmed by her dreams of Prince Charming- bearing in mind that her personal background is certainly influenced by more traditional ideas about love and marriage and now she finds herself in Disneyland which is as intellectual as a hairbrush.

    1. I guess that people commenting here have seen so many other photos of Amal at airports dressed incredibly glamorously even though casually. This outfit is more like many of us would wear when travelling in the sense that it is for comfort and often thrown together. It’s such a change. I mean she always looks beautiful, how could she not, but not as she did when wearing her red coat for example that she wore leaving LA once before.

I love seeing her casual, even though she is looking tired or a bit sad, but we dont know… It seems did not focus on matching things up, just wanted to go on a trip, i am sure she has more relevant things to worry about in her plate. Most of the time when i take such long flights i too dont care for matching things up, i grab what is most conffy. I however, would not wear that white blouse for a long plane trip. It gets so cold in airplanes so i wonder if she has a long sleeve shirt besides that coat!! I am not crazy about the pants, it seems defective at the zipper area??

Now, for the unsatisfied people, she is wearing at least 4 pieces on repeat there: the bag, the shoes, the white blouse and the pants. And it is Zara top, for the Zara lovers 😉

  19. Of course she’s exhausted! She’s been doing her job AND the Hollywood circuit too, I’d be beyond tired too. I won’t comment on that since she’s entitled to not look 100% camera ready when she’s about to board a long flight.
About her outfit: it’s very mish-mash, that style (on *anyone*) is not my cup of tea, so whatever…

The ONLY thing I do have issue with is the jeans. I happen to think the flare STYLE suits/will suit her looong and slim legs, if done properly. What makes these look wrong is that hers don’t seem to FIT properly. The´re waaaayyyy too loose on the waist and front: flares are supposed to be fitted on the top, not slouchy.
This makes me think that they were probably purchased when Amal’s weight was a little higher. I hope she can get back in shape OR she can always have them altered.

  20. Thanks Nati for keeping all of these comments in perspective. I doubt seriously that Amal reads here. No offense Nati to you and the blog. It’s always fun to visit and read everyone’s comments. But from what I’ve read about her fashion from people who know her and now George I think Amal is very in touch with her fashion style. We know she’s spontaneous and edgy in her choices. She’s doesn’t need affirmation from anyone. My goodness she has a friend in Anna Wintour and with designers. And I think she trusts herself in what she wears, whether others like her choices are not. And I think she is way too busy to take the time to be checking herself out online.

Thanks again Nati for keeping us up to the moment informed on what’s styling with Amal. Your hard work shows in the professional look and the fashion knowledge you bring to your blog.

That is normal human curiosity…we want to know what others are saying about us, even if it is bad or we disagree. And by the way, she is dressing up for us…all of us!!!!that is why she is always dressed- make-upd- blow-dried to perfection…So that we can see her!!!All of us (not just the ones on this blog obviously, but all around the world). Surely, George and her mom will advise her not to look at comments.

Just remember, she adds great value to any firm, so she will have no difficulties advancing her career, if she wants to. BTW, every profession that requires advanced degrees is demanding with unpaid overtime the norm. Companies will always get their money’s worth out of us.

    1. Hello Jane, the other one. Just a comment pointing out your misunderstanding of how Amal is employed and how the UK legal system works. It might interest you to know that barristers in the UK are self-employed. They do not receive monthly salaries. There is no such thing as ‘overtime’. You work however many hours your case demands, you bill them to your client or the legal aid agency, and hope that eventually you get paid (usually at some point the following year). This is not the US attorney system.

Barristers do not work at ‘firms’ they work at ‘chambers’ or ‘sets’ which are groups of self-employed individuals. Barristers do not advance their careers by moving between chambers, they usually stick to one chambers for life. They advance their careers through their own efforts and by building their own reputation.

If she had a salaried job, there is no way she would be keeping up the minimum hours. So it’s a good thing she’s self-employed!

      3. Yes she probably earns a tidy sum from representing them, and also from representing the Greek government. Though Assange is notorious for not paying his lawyer’s fees! Still, I would wager that it is insufficient to support her daily spend on clothing. If, as George says, it is true that she buys most of her clothes that is. I would also wager that she is now charging increased fees not for her legal skills but for the publicity she brings – particularly so in the Greek case (conveniently dropped by the Greek’s before any litigation).

  22. I hope she is not reading any of the comments of those who do not know her personally. How can it be fair to her to take every pap photo of her and comment on every item of clothing she is wearing — including perceived undergarments (and the price of each)? Is she to have no privacy just because the man she loves and married is a mega-celebrity? She has less privacy than her husband and most of the other Hollywood “stars.” If we are admirers of hers, we should not add to the craziness. No wonder she sometimes looks sad. I greatly enjoy the extensive photos that Nati compiles. And I enjoy the measured comments and intelligent critiques of styles she chooses when out at public events with her husband, or when representing a client professionally. I have trouble with cruel remarks made about an outfit worn for a hideously long flight from L.A. to Belfast.

Do you really think it’s possible to rise to the top of any profession without working incredibly hard and making tough choices? At least after you make your sacrifices you make decent money. Not true in my profession. Unless you crank out the bodice busters, there’s no way you can earn a living as a writer — at least not for a long, long time, or ever with the current upheavals in the publishing industry. So I spent years working on staff as a science editor, writing my books at night and on weekends. Not sobbing in my beer. Just sayin’ you’re far from alone in your trials and tribulations.

    3. No professional, man or woman, gets there without some element of sacrifice…regardless of profession. Every profession has its challenges. In the US, the medical profession becomes increasingly challenging due not only to government imposed regulations (and MOUNTAINS of paperwork) but really ignorant requirements imposed by our own professional societies. In addition, in medical academics, we are constantly mandated new curricula (because we are obviously poorly-trained with prior curricula) and new “improved” (but poorly substantiated) ideas of how to train young doctors. Therefore, in academics, we get it from both sides – both in clinical practice and education! I haven’t even mentioned the research we must do in order to maintain all types of accreditations. Having whined about this…I LOVE what I do. Not only do I get to help patients live longer and hopefully fuller lives with healthier hearts, I get to train a whole new generation of physicians.

So, regardless of pay scale, in the final analysis you have to do what you love. “A man’s reach should exceed his grasp, else what’s a heaven for?” (Robert Browning)

This woman, Amal, has worked hard, achieved a professional rank and enjoys an apparently happy marriage to a celebrity. I wish her nothing but the best and enjoy looking for what she comes up with next…

  30. As well as being an intellectual force to be reckoned with, Lebanon-British lawyer Amal has emerged as a fashion icon; the A-list couple caused a stir recently with their appearance at the 2015 Met Gala. On the subject of 37-year-old Amal’s style, George commented: “Sometimes people will give her a dress because they want their name to be out there, but she’s a grown person and she pays for a lot of her own stuff.

“The funny thing is, from the first day I met Amal, you could see that she has her own sense of style. She doesn’t have a stylist, she has clothes that she loves to wear and she knows exactly what they are.”

As for George’s approach to fashion: “Sometimes Amal looks at me confused about my sense of style,” he confessed with a laugh. “There are times when she says, ‘Are you going to wear a tequila T-shirt again?!'”

George also opened up on the couple’s home life. “Well, I cook a little bit. My wife makes reservations!” he said, before adding, “I’m now a bit of a connoisseur of Lebanese food. I didn’t know much about it before but I find it to be fantastic. We eat a lot of Tabbouleh.

“And listen, I was a single guy for a long time, I am decent chef, I know how to cook. I make a nice pasta because I spend time in Italy. I can also make good breakfast food, and I’m great at Thanksgiving dinner.”

    1. Patricia…
I saw this interview as well and did see GC say something along the lines of:
“Sometimes people will give her a dress because they want their name to be
out there, but she’s a grown person and she pays for a lot of her own stuff.”

Let’s assume, for the moment, that I believe what he said to be true.
I’m not saying I do but let’s run with it.

I can easily understand, reconcile, and justify why a person runs errands in expensive, designer clothes and is only seen once in them when the designer sends/lends the clothes for free (due to a symbiotic relationship). Hell, I’d probably do it too (especially with the shoes and bags 🙂 ). The closet is endless and your ‘job’ is to be seen and photographed in them. It’s win-win for the person and the designer. I get it.

However, I would have a harder time understanding, reconciling, and justifying why a person would buy a $4000 coat (or several) or a snake-skin collar and be seen in it only once? Why would a person do this? Attention? Self-esteem issues? To feel important? Keeping up with the Joneses? Invidious consumption? Sensitive skin that can only wear expensive clothes…and only wear them once? I guess the reasons would be endless and it’s for each of us to determine what we believe to be true.

I can understand when someone buys an expensive item because the quality is good and it will last a long time….the investment is worth it. I think we have put to rest the fact that she can afford the price and that this is not the issue. As ESR pointed out, it is the degree that people look at.

Anyway, as we’ve said a dozen times on this thread, GC is not doing AC any favors when he opens his mouth.

This is the sort of linguistic chess maneouvering that money pays for in Hollywood; he’s been PR prepped to bits – that was a pre-rehearsed, pre-determined, well placed and practiced delivery. Problem is others have PR degrees also. George would do better to be a true gentleman and show respect for his wife with his silence.

      2. On this point, IB, I’d point out Keira Knightley – she once bought a Burberry shearling coat for £3000, and said she felt so guilty for buying such an expensive coat that she wore it over and over again to get her money’s worth. She still wears it, in fact, and it has been 6 years! http://www.independent.ie/style/fashion/keira-knightley-i-wore-my-burberry-coat-every-day-for-a-year-26618368.html

If I could afford to buy a really expensive item of clothing, it would definitely be an investment piece like that coat.

Just goes to show that it is possible to be a celebrity, to be glamarous and interested in fashion, to have all the money in the world, and to still consider the ethical issues around spending so much money on an item of clothing. It is not a pre-requisite of becoming a celebrity that one buys designer garments with the same ease as one buys a coffee.

      1. No she isn’t wearing flats. It’s easy to see how long her legs are from other pics, even if you can’t see the shoes. Amal is approximately 5’5″ to 5’6″.

      2. Nati, I think this will precede my comment but do you know what shoe that is? I’m pretty sure it has a wedge. You are doing a wonderful job and I agree with another poster that you should have advertisements to supplement all the time you put into this. Thank you.

  32. Guys, why so many of you are judging her? We don’t know the details of her cases, how much she works on these, and her off work looks is her business even as a celebrity. Not being always perfect, happy and well dressed? So what? Making mistake, very too short top and skirt? Why she should care? Amal if you are reading this be yourself …and that is very good.

    1. Marjane Moghimi – I agree with you! Know that you are not alone on your conclusions! I have been trying hard to bring some reason to some folks here, but…some of them must be aliens, out of this world, therefore hard to reach!

  33. Dear Nati,
I just want to say what a nice group of women your blog has attracted. Whether agreeing, disagreeing, commenting, wondering, philosophising, stating positions, or whatever, it never gets out of hand. I always feel as if I am just hanging out with my girlfriends shooting the breeze. I have never participated in a blog before, nor have ever wanted to, but yours is a real pleasure and a lovely break from the daily grind. And no calories! Thank you.

  34. In case anyone was interested, Greece has ignored the advice of the Doughty Street which was to begin international legal proceedings to retrieve the Parthenon marbles: http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2015/may/13/greece-drops-option-legal-action-british-museum-parthenon-marbles-row

I am particularly intrigued by this line, if indeed it was written by Ms Clooney: “The British adhere to international law,” said Clooney who co-authored the report with Geoffrey Robertson and Norman Palmer, British QCs regarded as pre-eminent experts in cultural restitution. “The Greek government has never taken advantage of this Achilles heel.”

Let me repeat that: “The British adhere to international law… The Greek government has never taken advantage of this Achilles heel.”

This is the same as saying obeying international law is a ‘weakness’ (from the Greek POV). As if the anti-international law and anti-human rights brigade needed any more fodder to a) scrap the HRA and b) claw back on our international legal obligations! A casual glance at British newspapers would tell you that such legal obligations have never been more unpopular with the Government.

Quite an irresponsible quip to let slip!

    1. I am not a lawer as you are ESR, but I am Greek and you should know: a. There has been a change of goverment since our last elections. When AC visited Greece PM of Greece was Samaras and now it is Tsipras which is a communist (-ish) party, and that is probably why they dropped the case. b. The Greek goverment is constantly threatening not to pay the monthly salaries and pensions and taxing us, so I doubt they can find the money to pay such fees as probably the ‘office” of AC would charge….There are also other political “games” playing here that this blog isn’t the proper media to say them….

      1. I am well aware of the goings on in Greece, though of course not as well as you are Anna. I don’t believe I made any comment on the *reasons* for the Greek government rejecting the advice, I made a comment on an entirely unrelated matter – namely, whether obeying international law should ever be characterised as an ‘Achilles Heel’.

      2. I am not attacking you in any way ESR or defending the Greek goverment…it was also just a general comment, of why it’s not surprising for us (greek people in general) that the case was dropped. We all knew it was happening. The Parthenon marbles are sth that we have been fighting for, for many decades now, with very serious Ministers of Culture being very fisty (i.e. Melina Merkouri etc), but this time with AC’s firm- associates…everybody here thought that it was just a publicity stant because of her recent wedding. We never thought that it would actually fly.

      3. I was in Greece at the time Amal was Anna, and I thoroughly enjoyed the talk back shows’ commentary on the matter. It was a circus and fun to watch! It was my first introduction into how staged everything is around Amal and what a willing participant in the circus she is – there is one scene that stands out for me – when the Greek media showed Geoffrey R guiding Amal along and speaking to her under his breath in English and Amal following his lead and then Geoffrey congratulating her quietly – the video clips that made it to American news sites had voice overs by a commentator, so the ‘production’ and ‘directing’ of Amal was completely missed. It just looks like Geoffrey smiling and talking to himself! When the reality is, he was telling her, ‘stand over here’, ‘speak now’, ‘no more’, ‘well done’ etc.

      4. Then on that we are agreed, Anna. Definitely a publicity stunt immediately after her wedding. It’s a shame Doughty Street indulges in this sort of thing. Though I am glad the government is saving Greek money, or the money of the anonymous shipping magnate paying the fees. I actually agree with the Culture Minister – the best way to retrieve these treasures is through diplomacy.

      5. Anna I think when Amal visited Greece, the government back then was seriously thinking about a legal action, or else why would Amal Geoffrey Robertson waste their times writing a 150 page report about that. However, I guess the new government doesn’t want to go through this road. It only took them 48 hours to read the report and through it in the garbage. They just took power, so if they lost this legal battle, it wont be good for them. If I where them, I would too push this “uncertain” battle aside and rather not even bother dealing with it. They are saying that they would rather that a diplomatic approach to this problem, but it’s this what Greece has been going for decades? it’s clear that the diplomatic approach does not work. Also they are a new government, so I’m not sure how much influence they have in the international arena. Besides that, Amal stated that the only way you can make Britain do something against their will is by “legally” forcing them to do it. This is why Amal stated “The British adhere to international law.” Britain is a powerful country. I’m not sure they bow down to any country this easily. the law is the only thing above them.

      6. I would like to add one more thing which is that Britian is taking this way too personally. this is what The Express, a British newspaper, titled an article about this topic: “Amal Clooney sent packing after she sticks her lawyer nose into Elgin Marbles row.” they also deliberately included an unflattering photo of Amal in the article.

they say girl’s fights are the most hilarious fights. I respectfully disagree and say international fights are much more fun, especially when whole countries are the ones arguing or fighting.

Finally some people rightfully point out that Amal is given the credit for the work done by multiple people. Well she also is the only ones who gets trashed in the media when things do not go according to the plan. So I think this evens everything out.

    2. In fairness, ESR, we don’t know if Amal had anything to do with those lines. She was only a co-author, and yes, I know you precluded with that. It surely was condoned, if not written, by Geoffrey Robertson.
