  1. If it were me, I would have worn the yellow dress…and then the shoes would have been a nice detail.

That young girl looks EXACTLY like her mother.
She must be having the time of her life. 🙂

    1. That is why she is Amal! She got her own fashion rule-breaking-rule and that is why she stands out. Everyone else would had dont the matchy matchy obvious ( like she does it sometimes too!) But then she does not seems to care to the rules, when she does the matchy matchy is just because she feels like it, not because of fashion rules, it seems. Otherwise she would had done the obvious and gone all yellow. I am actually glad she didn’t 🙂

  2. Nati – you are amazing to so quickly source these outfits. Amal should have swapped shoes w her niece. Towering over her husband.. again. That young girl in a $2500 dress? Early Christmas gift perhaps??

      1. Nati3873, I too think that it’s Amal’s dress from her “Valli collection”.

    1. My thoughts exactly. Amal and her niece should have swapped shoes. Dress was interesting, I didn’t hate it. Pretty hair. Hand kiss…oh come on? I’ve always thought PDA’s are phony-baloney. The only ones that mean anything are those of old peopl, who have gone through years of life, love, sadness, heartache…then THAT means something. Seeing this just is gag worthy…sorry.

  3. I can’t usually fault Amal until now – the dress is awful and resembles a bad Chinese attempt at designer ready to wear copy that failed. She is amazing but I wouldn’t wear this to a rock fight – and I don’t engage in throwing rocks.
And the shoe combination? Her shoes would be appropriate for the GValli adult version of her niece’s dress. How can you possibly throw the fleuro yellow with the coral and black. Sure the mute front of the slingbacks works. Until…….you see the back.
I cannot believe that someone so chic and stylish could get this so awfully wrong.
Further, many critisise the barrister’s excessive expenditure on leading edge designer fashion – but she EARNS the money and wore it well for a long time before she met George. However, placing it on an 11 year old – what message does that send?
There is an ethical and moral responsibilty that defines what is age appropriate and the message sent to young teenagers.
11 year olds do NOT need or should not want to wear designer – it robs them of a child hood of wearing clothing appropriate to their peers and their age.
This is all getting a bit tacky and nouveau riche for me.
Again Nati – you to a fabulous job – but this blog is about fashion and style – I am adhering to that ethic in commenting – it is a fail totally on the style front.
Gosh, what a let down after the breath taking Galliano followed by the Ballenciaga assymetric white shift top.
Amal could have done so much better both aesthetically and ethically.
    Just a thought

    1. agree 100%/. have you seen the Cindy Crawford kids at the same event and what they wore. Just jeans and sneakers, but very stylish and appropriate. This dress by Amal is God-awful. And the shoes! And the kid’s dress is too mature for her age. I have a feeling that the Amal family is showing off their wealth every chance they get. They are starting to irritate me.

And the hand-kiss thing is so staged. I am convinced more than ever that this marriage is just a show.

      1. I agree that I don’t care for these shoes with this dress. However, she has great legs, regardless of her age and can wear any hem length she desires. As to her niece’s dress…the point would be…NO ONE has seen Cindy Crawford’s children at this event. The press has centered on this child. Therefore, her choice is the one being discussed, criticized, etc.. It is an age-appropriate sun dress which any 13 year old girl could wear. If it didn’t have a designer name attached to it, no one would think anything about it!

    2. Well said…..totally agree. I see that Amal is catching on to the standing poses that Hollywood women use when in front of the camera (check out the feet placement). She does love the camera.
What’s with Georgie…he mostly looks slovenly unless he attending a black tie affair.

If she did not stand like a lady then you would criticize her the same right Rose? Do you wish her to stand how??? If a woman stands with her legs appropriately now it is a a staged pose!??! heck nobody ever had to teach me to stand classy!!

    3. Sally, I take issue with this: “Further, many critisise the barrister’s excessive expenditure on leading edge designer fashion – but she EARNS the money and wore it well for a long time before she met George.”

Let’s be clear: Amal did not earn enough to buy the designer fashion she currently wears. Amal is a junior barrister of 5 years call at a public set which relies heavily on legal aid funds to do all that wonderful human rights work George gushes about – she does not, either before or after marriage, earn enough to afford what she wears. At least not from her work. There is obviously money in her family, and she has considerable unearned advantages from that, but her earned income does not pay for this lavish lifestyle.

Besides, her clothing budget has sky-rocketed since marrying George, the brands she wears are considerably more expensive. There is a huge difference between Paule Ka and Giambattista Valli.

So let’s put to bed this myth that barristers earn a mint, shall we? The reality is a barrister of Amal’s call at her set simply could not afford such a lifestyle from their income alone.

      1. Hi Nati. Yes, me too. Her pre-marriage fashion is what first drew me to this blog. It was the kind of elegant french chic that you rarely see in London these days, and it was the kind of clothing that was attainable and wearable.

      3. Have to agree on all acounts!!!I think that she had a personal style then, which I liked so much better!!!!…now it’s just expensive clothes without taste same of the times. Just because it is high fashion, doesn’t mean it’s beautiful or wearable every day and on every occasion

      4. Bravo ESR, my thought exactley
Let s not forget Ted Baker and PauleKa dresses and other a lot less known and a lot more economic stuff she used to wear and look cool.
        That was her budget then.
As for the stories about her wealth, she and her imediate family are not so filthy rich as some people think or want to present. They are not poor, but her life prior to Clooney was not All Giambattista Valli…
This I know for a fact.
The only one ‘rich’ is her oncle, from her mothers’ side, and as it is a public fact, he did not earn it all in a strictly legal way
Unfortunately as she behaves like someone with ‘bulimia’ regarding expensive clothes (something she didn t do before) I understand that all she needed was a chance to show what she really is like. I prefered her a lot more when she was an unknown young barrister with a creative and funny yet classy way of dressing up. For me, there was more to appreciate.

      5. Hi Italian Bird – yes, her family’s wealth has been overrated. Her uncle is very wealthy, but her parents not hugely so. This is all relative. I think we can safely say that Amal had a very comfortable upbringing. She was certainly not one of the students who only got to Oxford on a full scholarship!

      6. ESR, I see that Amal is in the news again regarding the “hooded men” case. Of course, the angle being pursued by the international press is that George will be accompanying Amal when she visits Ireland next month to meet with the legal team. You are obviously very knowledgable about the legal profession, so I’m wondering, what role will she be playing as part of the larger team? I imagine there must be some resentment in legal circles since all the breathless press coverage gives the impression that it is “her” case (just as the Elgin marbles, etc. were her cases).

        Like

      7. Yes, I heard this mentioned the other day. From what I’ve heard, there are other counsel on this case and Amal will be the junior, not leading. This is perfectly normal on a case of this standing – you wouldn’t want a junior leading on this unless you couldn’t afford anything else! My guess is that she would be taking instructions, providing initial advice, doing research etc… all the usual. I am not sure whether proceedings have been issued in this case or how far along it is.

I have read that there are concerns from her clients that her presence will turn the case into a ‘circus’, on the other hand they wouldn’t have instructed her if they didn’t want the publicity. They also seem wary/unsure about George’s involvement. In my view, taking one’s husband along whilst one is on a work trip, with the purpose of raising the profile of the case, is highly unprofessional.

As for what the legal profession think… very little! It is a bit of an insulated bubble. The Bar has its stars and everyone in the profession knows who they are. Amal is not one of them, she’s too junior and her work is not – despite what the media says – anywhere near sexy enough to really attract much notice inside the profession. It was very amusing reading that she represented Julian Assange when really Dinah Rose QC was the true star of that case. Now if you want to meet a real star with enormous flair, excellent public speaking skills, a true passion for human rights, as well being beautiful, chic, and extremely confident – meet Dinah Rose! The way Dinah handled the Assange case was truly remarkable. Amal juniored on that – research, paperwork, proofreading and lots of trips to the library. It is great that she was involved, but a real shame that the public don’t appreciate the main player.

      8. A little note on the media and her cases: i wish George stopped feeding his and Amal’s private life to the vultures! He should know better than that! Even if he says a little, it will be taken out of context, proportion, etc. Lately he has opened his mouth to much! I watched the interviews videos here in the USA, and what the tabloids make out of his few words could indeed compromise things for Amal’s image and representation in her cases. George really needs to zip it, because he is very spontaneous on his answers to the reporters and does not mean bad, but they will scrutinize and antagonize everything to make a headline, and often the headlines is nothing of the truth or of what he really intended to say. When he said he would visit the country it was not implied by him that he would be making the case stronger on the media. He was just mentioning that since Amal would have a case there, he could see in that an opportunity to visit the country, that was all. Now the media is stating that George is almost involved in the case, when that is NOT true.

So, again, George needs to really stop mentioning anything about Amal and her work, and their private lives, if their marriage wishes to survive. Lets just see how much of a media whore he is. But the price to pay is certain in his marriage if he continues to bring the media into his home.

      9. I love your comments ESR! So insightful! And I completely agree. It is very sad to me that Amal gets all the credit for running these legal cases….I just wish the media would cotton on to how junior she really is. Yes she is smart and I’m sure to some degree hard working….but she is not doing the hours of effort and slavery to the job that most successful professionals have to do.

As for her clothing budget….it most definitely is on George’s credit card. Which is fine. I would do the same! I think it will be a long time though before she finds her own sense of style and voice in this new world of multimillionaire status. her style right now just screams fashion victim. I miss the Paule Ka era too nati!

      10. It doesn’t help that George gives deliberately misleading interviews repeatedly citing her supreme intelligence and “11 cases” ad nauseum (so so so unnecessary and unprofessional to do this – which spouse digs their partner’s professional grave this way??), thus over-inflating her ability and raising the public’s expectations of her. It has a paradoxical effect of eroding her credibility, particularly with professional people who (a) know far many people far more intelligent than Amal and (b) know the nature of her true status as a very junior player in the legal field.

    1. I haven’t seen any comments which attack Amal in an ad hominem way that are ‘cruel or unfair’. Yes, this blog is about style and fashion – but fashion is so much more than clothes. Nati understands this and I think you do too, Sally, but there are some readers who seem to think fashion is confined to an article of clothing and nothing more. Fashion cuts across many very interesting areas of life and experience: consumerism, aesthetics, ethics, social justice, form, history… to name but a few. It would be a shame if we limited our conversations to pure aesthetics. I know you aren’t advocating for this, I am making a general comment.

      1. Fair enough, but… to go as far as criticise her knees of point out physical flaws as if everyone made a big deal out of them, that is not fashion, that is not valid point of view, it is just harsh criticism that is revealing of a person who cant accept either getting old, or thinks that beauty is only skin deep. I am not implying that you ESR made such comments, some people have, and i find that distasteful, impolite and really mediocre, to focus on someone’s physical flaws.

        Like

      2. Is it possible to separate one’s clothing from one’s physical features? Clothing is worn – by those who care about such things – to accentuate one’s positive features. Amal clearly thinks she has great legs which accentuate her ‘style’ otherwise she would not wear such short hemlines. Her make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury did say after the wedding that Amal had ‘worked hard’ on her legs. In that context, is a comment about her knees really ‘harsh criticism’ or is it just another point of view on what style of clothing would suit her better?

      4. ESR, first, i disagree that there hasn’t been commentators attacking Amal unfairly, meanly, unkindly and hatefully in this blog; it has been and it is becoming very annoying. Second, clothing, above all else is to cover the naked body… then… and only then… comes fashion. There are thousand of people who do not worry about fashion and who have no sense of style. I also think that one should not focus on small flaws, such as Amal’s, and say they are disgusting thing to look at, as some commentator shamelessly implied. She seems to be repulsed by Amal knees… (reminding us of those sick-minds commentators on D.M. who are vicious to make a case out of Amal’s physicality) To imply that she has ugly legs is so subjective because it is just your or some others opinion, not all agree with that! Including myself, there are thousands i am sure, that finds Amal’s legs formidable!! And I d o not – at all – get repulsed by the skin rolling a bit on her left knee on these pictures. It happens often after a long work out, and many women and men has that, unless they are super young. Amal is not super young, she is 37, and, from now on we will see she getting older right before our eyes, as we too will be getting older in our own knees. This is happening to all of us and we must stop this obsession with physical beauty, especially in such small details like in Amal’s case, those are such irrelevant flaws that needs to be overlooked.

Fashion has nothing to do with ones physicality. You could be missing your arms or legs and still be fashionable. To make an obsession on her beautiful legs and knees, and pretend or assume that such point of view is shared by everyone, is not only foolish, it is also unkind, it shows how hard you are on your own self. When you get your skin a bit loose on your knees, how will you feel if someone told you that you need to cover up your legs, or, that you have no right to wear a certain clothing because they will be repulsed by your skin? Is that what you are supporting here ESR? That we should be that intolerant to our own fate as a humans? How about inner beauty? How about a smile? How about ALL THE SO MANY positive points that Amal brings to the table in these pictures? All the other beauties she has? That does not counts and does not diverse to be focused on?

To be fashionable does not means you have to please everyone on the way you look. Fashion is certainly NOT skin deep and neither such expectation is the conception of everyone in the world. Not everyone is that obsessed with skin. After all, skin is skin, rolled up, rolled down, fixed in place, it is just skin, it is supposed to cover up a beautiful soul inside. I think it is very sad to see such bright individuals promoting or supporting the “shallow-hollows” of our societies.

Just please keep in mind that not everyone is that shallow or superficial.

I LOVE AMAL’s legs, and the little skin in her knees is not a focus point for me, it does not bothers me, it does not takes away the fashion, the beauty, the style. It actually enhances it, because the message she passes on is: hey, this is me, i accept myself as i am and these legs are mine and i love them and i dress them up the best way i can because they are lovely and they serve me very well! Now… that for me, is a fashion statement that goes beyond fashion!

      5. Personaly I didn’t even notice the “skin in her knees” and all that stuff mentioned above before they were written and I still don’t see them as a fault, but in defence of those people saying those things…I think that what they mean is that it doesn’t look good because it is such a short dress…and nothing more. No one said if someone was missing a leg or arm or any body part or suggesting plastic surgery or anything. I think it was more of a comment that you or I would say if she was very fat and wore a dress so short. That it wasn’t as flattering as other clothes she has worn.

I think she has beautiful long stems…mayby a little too thin for my taste….but that’s just my point of view, and I think that trousers look more flattering in attoning her slim figure. And to say one more thing and be done with that, some clothes flatter the body and can hide imperfections and others don’t…what everyone chooses to wear is their bussiness! We are talking about Amal because she is the one on the spotlight due to her marriage and therefor everyone is watching her every move. If she was unknown (like we are), then no one would have noticed any of those things.

PS 1. Sorry for the spelling mistakes…I think I have forgotten how to write in english… 🙂
PS 2. Nati there was a comment I wrote a few days back and wasn’t posted…was there a problem or was it just forgotten?it was an answer about the articles conserning Cate Blanchett. Thank you!

      6. OnYourFace: I think you missed the caveat in my statement which undermines your entire tirade. The caveat was here: “by those who care about such things”.

Of course clothing is not just there to accentuate physical assets for all, but for some people it is. Amal is certainly someone who wears clothes that compliments her physical features. She is one of those “who care about such things”. If someone then says that they don’t believe her style choice compliments the physical features she is choosing to accentuate, why is that not a valid remark?

And please, for the sake of my own sanity, don’t speculate on my own sense of self-worth. I can assure you that pondering Ms Clooney’s knees doesn’t keep me up at night.

      7. ESR, one thing is to talk about clotting that does not accentuates ones features, and the other, is to be disgusted by some rolled up or down knee skin. Please read the comments and find the ones who are disgusted by that. If that was not you then don’t wear the hat 😉

No, i could never speculate your worth, only you have that power. I do hope you do though. We all should, specially when we are getting way too hard on others.

But you know what… i am tired of these littleness. I am not better than anyone and i too enjoy fashion and enjoyed this blog in the begging. Nati sure is terrific in posting all these pictures, and i wish that, you Nati, make your time worthwhile money-wise, because for sure many here wont honor your effort nor share your genuine fondness of Amal.

Me, i am taking off, it was never my intention to spend my time contemplating someone else’s life, and even less to scrutinize and speculate on them since i have no clue who they are. Before this blog, i had never, ever, commented online on anything. Perhaps it was a mistake to do so, because really, it is not in me to be mean spirited, to judge people by their looks, because they are fat or thin or whatever. It is indeed extremely hard on me to take that route.

So…Falwell i wish you all the best and above all, that you too, choose to spend your time in a more fulfilling way. I sure will ;D

As for Amal, she will be just fine! She accepts herself as she is and that is the best i will take away from here; to know that she won’t bend to others judgements of her, and specially, harsh judgements from those mean-spirits disguised under eloquence. .

        Merry Part….Blessed Be

      8. Onyourface, I’m a little confused. At various points you have condemned Amal for wearing animal fur, you have been very vocal against her for wearing snake skin; you have noticed she often wears heavy make up; you have criticised George for his interview transgressions; you have taken George to task for his “hard sell” approach to his liquor; you have even blamed Amal’s mother for Amal’s fashion decisions. You have at various intervals criticised and mocked other writers using inflammatory terms and an overdose of emotional language. You have made references to people’s inner beings simply by reading their words out of context.

So forgive me for mentioning I am confused at your spiralling vitriol at ESR, and others, myself included, when we also take note of discrepancies. I’m very very confused.

And might I hazard a guess, you might be confused too by what you really think and whether you accept your own thoughts.

  5. Amal wore a nice outfit this was about George not Amal she dressed appropriately. Amals niece is from a wealthy family so I doubt she wears cheap clothing. The dress was fine for her age if you didn’t know who designed it you wouldn’t know the price. Many little girl’s like to dress up nothing wrong with that .

    1. The thing is that everybody knows who designed it though, because AC is always wearing GV….and this is not something appropriate for a girl her age (even if her parents are rich or not…this is not about the price of the dress, but about the age of the wearer). In this event I only like GC’s look.I think he is the only one dressed appropriately for this…Amal’s look…I don’t want to comment, cause it’s not gonna be good….poor choice to say the least, even if it is an expensive dress

That is IF she was Mother Teresa, but she is not!!? hell i would wear them too! I am sure this was one of Amal’s dress she lend to her niece. It is a cute dress, perfectly appropriate for the girl

      2. I agree with you (onYOURFace), and of course she can give them to her niece and her sister and anyone else she’d like to!!!! (I can give her my address and she can send me some stuff if she wants to 🙂 ) but it still looks a bit strange if that someone wore it on a public event standing right besides her. I think that, that was the point of my “statement” (and that it was to expensive for a little girl to wear). I wouldn’t mind seeing her sister or niece in it, in another event where Amal wasn’t invited too. Perhaps wouldn’t even make the connection with Amal.
I find it fun though that she matched her shoes with her nieces dress, and her dress with Georges clothes. The 3 of them are like an unsamble… cute!!! (Still don’t like the dress though!!!)

  6. It is so much more than the fashion. As a female lawyer, I admire her work and her choice to dress as she wants despite the criticism (like all the people that did not like her ripped jeans). It is sad that most people, especially women, will jump at the chance to criticize her appearances, but that is the world we live in.

That being said, I would love to know who makes these sunnies. I think they look great.

  7. Sally Rogers, thumb up! i second every single word of your statement. Plus i would like to add that this dress is simply way too short – for 2 reasons: first, she is not a teenager any more, but a woman in her late 30s. She*s giving me mutton-dressed-as-lamb vibes here. Second, her bare knees – i am sorry i have to say so – look awful, bony and the skin saggy. She should doublecheck in a mirror before leaving the house. Style factor: zero.

Your analogies are really silly: “pencil thin legs”… Have you looked at a pencil lately? Do you really think her legs are as thin as a pencil?? They are not! So why are you so hard… on yourself?? Yes, on yourself, because i am going to judge you as, not only silly but as a hater and not interesting to be read. Get a hold of your self judgement!

Please do that, dont be afraid to be judged ok? I will do it kindly as you are doing with Amal. I think you should be embarrassed by your comment, seriously. Because all that you are doing is telling the world that you will find your knees awful, bonny and saggy…or.. not yet?? Dont worry honey, you will get there, like ALL OF US!! No matter how much you hate it, so you better start to prepare mentally, or the trip will be sad!

great answer. After i have read all comments, i would never send a Picture of myself to this blog. I am too frightened of some of these wellknowm polite women here.
To critzise, comment and discuss fashion, people, politics etc. is really interesting, but some people do not have enough fairness and politeness to argue with. This is the only point i really do not like here. This is also a shame for Nati`s work.

      3. Rose, and you created that rule yourself?? Because i do not see where is the Ten Commandments stones on fashion, please share with us where did you abide by such rule! We are not even fashion experts here, (if there is really such a thing). But is is fun to see others share common senses in style. However, please tell me Rose, what kind of satisfaction you get when you read this following statement about Amal’s left knee, by one of your admired commentators:

“i am sorry i have to say so – look awful, bony and the skin saggy. She should doublecheck in a mirror before leaving the house. Style factor: zero.”

You enjoy reading that Rose? You think this is a fashion statement? You think this is worthy reading? if you say yes then, indeed, i dont enjoy reading you or any one who thinks like that. She said that because Amal dared to show off a knee with a bit of skin not smoothly displayed – like when one is on their 20thies – then she suddenly has ZERO fashion taste, she failed completely??? If that is what this blog will become; infiltrated by these kind of shallow-hollow minds, then i am sorry, i will just stop coming here and for sure will stop spending my time trying to bring reason to such individuals. For me, these types of minds needs to really learn how to be more accepting of age and “imperfections”. To make such repulsive comments out of so little, shows how unforgiving such people are. Imagine, heavens forbid, such people would loose a leg? I bet they would stop wearing pants because that would be really silly heh? You get my point?? I really hope you do.

I really hope that Amal will continue to SHOVE on the worlds face what self’ acceptance means. Go on amal, wear what you love, i want to see all your “flaws” so i can continue to see you as just a human being.

      4. Onyourface, I bet you remind Amal of her mother – I don’t know, maybe you are her mother?

My head’s in a spin after she wore that Zara top, it was like, right on cue. It’s like a sign to us lesser mortals that she’s LISTENING to US – I’m having all sorts of wonderful delusions, like maybe together, we can beat Wintour at her game aye…?

I’m not sure what to think anymore about the posters on this blog. I have to keep checking my knees in the mirror to verify I’m not Amal.

Seriously onyourface – we’re all on the same side here. She’s fascinating, not perfect. Have a bit of fun. Leave people be with their opines. Amal opens the door by flaunting her legs – she must know this will invite comments, good and bad. She’s curious what people think of her – that’s why she’s here also (Hi Amal – great legs 😘).

Personally, I veer away from criticising anyone’s appearance bce I’m quite stunning – just ask me😜.

  9. Amal´s face looks perfectly beautiful, her hair too, reminds me much of the young Joan Crawford in some pictures. I like her dress, the bit edgy sling pumps too. Nevertheless, I would prefer Mia´s dress on Amal, but a bit longer, as I find the pink dress too girly for Amal. In my opinion, the yellow dress is an odd choice for a little girl of 13, I mean the cut is somehow too grown-up and sexy, and the price tag is a bit queer for a little girl, even if Mia looks way older than 13.

  10. I think the litle girl looks very pretty and the way a little girl should look going to her first Hollywood premiere of her uncle’s new movie. How exciting for her. . Amal looks fine. Admitidly, we’ve seen her choose better ensembles, but she is only human. She seems to really like that particular style of shoe… I must have seen her in atleast 6 variations of it. It is a pretty shoe but the color does not work here… maybe black or the tan ones I have seen her wear.

  11. I think some have got me wrong – I did nothing other than comment than Amal’s dress and shoe combination is awful. NOTHING about her physically. Gosh, the woman is gorgeous.
I do stand by my comment that dressing a 13 year old in a $2,845+ dress is sending out the wrong message.
    She is still a child.
Money is NOT an excuse for tackiness.
If aspiring to that rather than Amal’s intellectual accomplishments – it is the wrong message to young girls.
Amal chooses to put her self out there -strategically placed with Anna Wintour for photo ops when it suits – as a style icon.
Fair enough – but this is a fashion fail!

  13. At first i didn´t like the yellow shoes with the dress either but when you see her standing next to her niece it´s kind of cute, almost like a statement: “that pretty girl next to me in her yellow dress belongs to us!”
Amal could have easily worn the shoes she wore the night before – almost the same cut and the colors would have matched perfectly. I guess she just doesn´t like it when it matches too well and although i don´t always agree it sometimes makes an outfit look a lot more interesting. Like here in combination with her niece.
And about Mia´s dress: Sally, i agree a 100% with you, it´s certainly not appropriate for a 13 year old. But i´m sure Nati is right and it´s just one of the many dresses that GV sent to Amal. She probably didn´t waste a thought and just gave it to her niece who seems more than happy in it (i wouldn´t be suprised if she also gave some of her GV shoes to her sister). Like so many mentioned earlier i don´t think Amal worries too much about what other people may think. And at least in this aspect we can all learn from her.
Amal really is stunning – it strikes me even more when she´s standing next to George who keeps looking older, even in this fancy suit :/

  14. I forgot to add, that as long as the children of the uber rich get their picture taken, we will see more and more dressed in very expensive adult oriented clothing. They and their parents need to show they have what it takes to set them apart….not only from us but I’m sure there is fierce competition amongst themselves…that is human nature and we learn it at a very early age.

The shoes from the dinner in LA would have been a perfect match. The hand kiss on the red carpet is very awkward and confusing to me. It seems forced and it seems like it’s George trying to convince the public of how much he’s in love with her and happy he left bachelorhood. Seems a little disingenuous.

  17. Amal’s dress looks cheap and badly made. Look at the stitching …fabric too. Looks like a good try by one of the contestants on the TV program Project Runway. We all know Amal can do much better fashion wise.

    1. Randa – agree completely. The material looks like cheap polyester with bad, very noticeable stitching.

      1. I agree too. And sadly, the dress may be polyester, like the folded white top she wore the other night, and the dress she wore st Cipriani. If I could afford designer clothes, and make
requests to the designer, I would insist on natural fabrics
(as I do in a much lower price range).

        Like

      2. Yes I too only wear natural fabrics. I think polyester gives the ‘techy look’ to this fabric but it could also have been achieved with a lightly felted wool. But that wouldn’t have been weather appropriate. Perhaps a kind of cotton cloque or pique would have given the same effect.

In fact, I wish she would return all the things GV gave her because they do not suit her at all. If anything, i’m starting to really dislike his designs. 1. I don’t like those GV shoes either. I personally hate shoes that look like offensive weapons… spiky heels, spiky toes… I hope this fad passes. Maybe I’m biased because I think footwear should be practical and women shouldn’t have to suffer for fashion. So yes, I hate those pumps she wears and I hate them even more with skinny jeans. GV’s dress was beautiful on wedding but it needed a longer hemline, and I agree with the others that she would look much more elegant if she stopped showing off inches of thigh. Yes, she has great legs, but showing them off actually doesn’t do her look many favours.

She looks much better in more classic styles, but then again she gets all this stuff for free so I guess she’s just going to keep wearing it! In fact, that’s actually made me respect her fashion choices a lot less. She’s almost lost some integrity by agreeing to partner with Anna Wintour/GV.

Lovely hair and make-up here though!

      1. Celebrities charge “couture wearing fees” to advertise a designer’s label. Eg Nicole Kidman charged $2 million (in 1997!!) to walk the Oscars red carpet in a Christian Dior dress. More recently, some celebrities have ‘waived’ their fees to wear Galliano in order to support his resurrection eg Madonna.

Designers use celebrities as vehicles to come into the public consciousness via the ‘Red Carpet effect’ and the publicity this will generate.

There will be some sort of contractual arrangement between Amal and GV. The clothes are not “free” as such.

The other point I would like to make is that I find it crude, unclassy and couth that George would allow his business partner Randy to walk the red carpet if a children’s movie, advertising their alcohol brand on Randy’s Tshirts. It is irresponsible and tacky. In Australia and NZ there are strict laws governing the advertisement of alcohol at public events – so I find this ’round about’ method to be crass and completely lacking in class. It is disconcerting how far these celebrities will go to make a buck, knowing that their brand is being subconsciously imprinted into young minds who will be following the premier of this movie.

Haute couture came into the public consciousness because of the red carpet. Nicole Kidman walked the Oscars in 1997 in a peacock green Christian Dior Haute Couture gown

Because not only it is not adequate to promote tequila on a Disney movie, it is WRONG! And Rande, it is a movie premiere, your dear friend’s movie premiere, take a rest on the advertisement!! And, from a marketing point of view, it is such a hard sale! I cant stand hard sales ;-( It does not work, it can, actually, totally boycott your product. We are getting tired of George wearing his Casa-Amigos t-shirt everywhere and we know why he is doing it. It is overkill. Dont underestimate the consumers, they are not stupid. GC did allow this hard sell/promotion at his wedding as well as at his movie…Rande can’t take all the blame. They are partners and both know very well what they are doing. Tasteless and shameless. Hard to have respect for people who would sell out their own wedding. Then again, the wedding was a PR masterpiece so a lot of things/images got promoted and sold there. I must say, if I were dying of thirst, I wouldn’t buy Casamigos Tequila.

Similarly, do not underestimate pretty lawyers and their need to be noticed. If we stand back and look at the big picture – every event G and A are photographed at serves as an advertisement or endorsement of another product. Every interview George gives, serves as an endorsement of Amal. I’m getting a little wary of the PR machine.

  21. FINALLY, yes! The hair is perfect and a departure from the side part loose wave. I think this look is particularly feminine especially with the tighter curl; it softens her face. And great job on the makeup – the salmon pink lip is a much better look than the stark red (which ages her & makes her look clownish).

The color combination of the dress works for her. The construction of the dress does look … inexpensive; especially with the horizontal seam running across the body, although I am sure it’s a design element.

And, yes, she seems to have every variation of the GV pointy toe sling back stiletto in her shoe arsenal. But, I actually like the neon pop of color… it’s a very mod color palette. The color scheme is flattering. But, the execution in terms of clothing choice is debatable.

There were a lot of people wearing sunglasses (see in one of the pics, all women behind Amal had them). On the video there is a moment she removes it but cant handle the blinding flashes, even George seems to be disturbed by it, he makes a comment that he cant see.

However, I do wish it was a different sunglasses design, indeed, a bit more soft design to match the delicate dress.

That being said, if you see the three of them in a vacuum – it looks amusing – the first thought that came to mind is Blues Brothers. George and her niece are sunglass-less so in comparison she looks let’s say “out of place.”

More importantly since this is a “news and style” blog, her glasses were an inappropriate style – too severe/angular and casual looking for her outfit. They styling is off as many OTHERS have mentioned.

Looks like something you would wear to a shower or someone’s wedding. The shoes are great but not with this outfit. Is it just me or are her eyebrows heavier than usual? They look drawn on. Some say George is gay and that this marriage is a sham. I so don’t think so. The little girl’s dress would of looked a great on Amal. I love her clutch – it is awesome.

Amal knows how to have fun when she dresses. Fashionwise I think she is always trying to find the fun in what she chooses for a social outing. Her niece looks terrific and seemed to handle all the attention with great ease. The fact that she is wearing a designer dress is her personal business between her and her family. We don’t know anything about this girl or her mom.

Just my guess. The neon, orange, silver in the outfits seem to suggest this to me. Normally, I don’t recall seeing such bright colors at many movie premieres. Again, just a guess.

She looked happy and very pretty with her aunt and uncle it was a special occasion.

  26. I think she looked cute and I like she changed her hair a bit. Mia looks adorable she’s 13 and the dress is very girlie and spring fashion. If they can afford a girlie dress at 2k who cares? As for Amal I love her look and the color- she did well with the shoes too – it fits her eccentric style and by now we know she loves funky shoes! That’s why I love her style lol! Again she brings the lebanese class and style and is spot on. I think it was a weird moment when She removed her sunglasses and put them back on she felt weird putting them back on so she told george she can’t see from the sun. It looked like george tried to help her out by commenting that it’s hard to see to the photographers.
These two will last and im sure by next year we will hear they’re Having a baby. Amal is smart enough as a lebanese woman to seal the deal plus he would be a great father 🙂
By the way – Amal has always dressed in expensive clothes before she met george – her off the shoulder jumpsuit she once wore was a repeat from 2009 by Versace. However now she has much more access to clothing ! By the way im sure each case she represents HIGH officials they are paying her through the nose like 250k a case at least!

    1. I am sorry but this is just ridiculous. £250,000 a case? She’s not a QC! She simply cannot earn those sums, and represented imprisoned exiled officials isn’t exactly a great money earner. She probably made decent money from her advisory work, but nowhere near enough to buy as much designer gear as she wears. Yes, she could probably afford the odd designer garment on her own salary before marriage – a single woman, renting in London, on a decent salary probably can afford Versace once in a while if that’s what they want to blow their cash on. But I am growing weary of these exaggerated claims of barrister’s salaries – they simply aren’t accurate at all.

One would have to reconcile the excessiveness with other (perhaps less flattering) measures of character, if one was to accept the excess was indicative of something other than what Amal has “earned” as a lawyer.

My impression is that for some people it is hard to think in onion layers, and harder still to consider the multitude of interlocking factors often at play in celebrities’ behaviours; it is often much easier to accept what is offered by magazines at face value.

Hence the proliferation of the majestic Hollywood PR machine. Because it works.

It is increasingly about what Anna Wintour steers them to wear. That’s why they all share the same “look”. It’s becoming formulaic.

    1. That´s what I mean, Minnow. But it´ too simple to blame it all on AW, It´s probably the whole situation that must be putting a strain on Amal. I think the body language of Amal and George reveals that they didn´t feel good with each other that day- no matter if the dress was ok or not. I think Amal is perfect anyway but her new life might be confusing and difficult despite of all the money.

      1. It seems to me that Amal loves the limelight but also feels the strain and is conscious – too conscious – about looking good at all times. It’s beginning to come across as effortful and over-the-top as every outfit is a designer label and almost every pair of shoes is sky-high stilettos. As a contrast the late Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy keeps coming to mind. CBK didn’t go under the wing of AW, had a strong and tasteful personal style that didn’t depend exclusively on designer outfits. She looked great even in GAP jeans cum nameless shirts or tank tops with loafers. When she attended black tie events she usually wore Yohji Yamamoto, which AW never features in Vogue. CBK might not have a legal career to boast but style-wise she was far more sophisticated IMHO.

      2. I appreciate your comparison to Caroline but these are different times. Social media has created this monster we all participate in! As media savvy as she was, how Caroline would handle her public perception now could be quite different. Who knows? Would have been nice to see her evolution :-(. And since we are comparing dear Amal to others.. Let’s not forget that apparently Demi Moore hated her knees so much, she had plastic surgery on them. I said APPARENTLY.

      3. Hi Andrea, I’m curious about your comment “I think the body language of Amal and George reveals that they didn´t feel good with each other that day”. Could you please elaborate? I’m getting the same vibes looking at some of their videos.

    2. Amal is SO FAR ABOVE Anna Wintour! Amal should just side-step & disregard her! I was kind of shocked they even invited her to the wedding. AW is so pretentious, so artificial, aloof, and superficial. She snubs everyone except those of whom could be an asset to her. She’s like a leech. Run Amal….Run as fast as you can and as far as you can….away from Anna Wintour. She’s a freak! Amal is so far more classy and elegant than AW!

  31. Nati – when you add new pictures or update a post with an ID, I don’t get notice of that. Are you able to arrange to have an email update sent to all of us (assuming that everyone else doesn’t get notification either)? Thanks.
E.g. When you updated the pink purse ID…..or the Armani blue suit….or when you added extra pictures to the ‘Tomorrowland’ post.

  32. The dress is just “okay”. It’s not her best look, but not her worst either. I do like some of the color-block trends if it’s done right, but this dress just reminded me of something from the 80’s for some reason. Again, it was just “okay”. Sometimes she doesn’t look “put together”…this was one of those moments. Yellow/silver shoes, a zipper clutch, and black/coral dress. It’s a lot of mis-match going on. Sometimes it seems like she tries too hard. And George always looks so uncomfortable & unfriendly these days in photographs. He never used to look like that.
Amal should just go shopping and pick out what she likes, instead of having designers come to her and picking out pieces from their collection; Giambattista Valli, McQueen, etc. She’s selling their brand, rather than wearing what looks good or best on her. I think that’s why she is “Hit or Miss” all of the time.

    1. Do you recall the photos of George and that Italian actress – I’ve forgotten her name – they were very natural and fun photos to look at. Both looked to be having a glorious time. But he was younger. Perhaps he’s just older and tired now and more measured in his behaviour. He’s ‘been there, done that’ a few times now, maybe he is just over it all. Who knows. But I agree. He doesn’t look as upbeat as previous in some shots.

    2. I just saw the picture that Nati put up trying to find a similar dress that she was wearing and couldn’t. The “similar” dress is hot pink with neo yellow gladiator sandals. So, this leads me to believe she was copying that style. She shouldn’t do that, it didn’t work.

    1. Clara….

      Thanks for posting this.

‘Are you going to wear a Tequila T-shirt again?’
LOL….no need to ask him that question. Any man who promoted his own company at his movie premiere and wedding (e.g. Rande with the shirt) is gonna wear it again and again and again….every time he knows he is being photographed. Gotta keep the publicity going.
I just wish he’d get a different color.
Ha….I’m half expecting to see AC in one soon. 🙂

  33. I also have a comment on how thin we always say she is nowdays…if fashion brands are showering her with presents and clothes, then she had to be model size to be able to wear them, and we all know what size that is (size 0 ring a bell???)!!!And that is a good reason to lose weight 🙂 lol So I guess she had to lose weight for that reason. I don’t think they would custom made all of those clothes in her original size for free…eventhough she was slim and looked much more beautiful and healthy-thin to me then

    1. Anna, that is an astute observation. And if Wintour is behind it all, it now makes better sense as Vogue is a major proponent in putting forward thin models. It’s all quite circular isn’t it? And frightening how in very subtle ways these few celebrities get to infiltrate the consciousness of our youth.

    2. Anna, I recall reading in the Vogue feature on the fitting of her wedding gown that Amal was “smaller than the sample size” – size 000 (whatever that means when converted from European to US sizing). She is definitely THIN by all accounts for someone who is 5’7″/5’8″ tall.

  35. Before i liked Amal for obvious reasons…now, i am starting to like her because she does not do the obvious.

I have read most comments and, me too, when i fist looked at this dress i had mixed feelings…looked like some to wear on a wedding, prom.. the heel color, the glasses, the size of the skirt, her niece dress…and all else. But then… i watched the video and read some reviews. Here are some facts to consider:

    – This premiere was daytime, super bright Californian sun light, most everyone was wearing glasses and the flashes wore insanely rolling, blinding. No wonder they look hard-faces in some pictures, especially George, who is more than tired of flashes.
    – A Disney movie with a futuristic theme and Amal dress does honor it, in my opinion.
    – It is fair to assume the dress the niece is wearing is from Amal’s designer’s gift closet. I find that cute and fun that she allowed her niece to wear some of the stuff sent to her. it reminds me of my nieces, the 17 of them, trying to get on my closet ;-0

    – George clumsy kiss: if you look at all videos, you know by now that, pictures are totally misleading because they are frozen moments clicked hundreds of times in seconds, and an image is taken out of a whole movement that is not seen. Obviously the editors decided to publish an image that was frozen in a not so flattering gesture ( gee..i wonder why!!). I am sure that the whole kissing movement was not like the picture shows; forced, weird or staged. So it is really advisable to watch the videos before making your judgements on just the pictures 😉

Yes, me too i could point out some different choices i would had made, like choosing a more delicate design for the sunglasses. But all else, i made peace with it because i am learning that, with Amal, one needs to understand that she doesn’t give a dam about the fashion “rules” or what everyone thinks. Hey, she worn those white gloves, remember? After that, all is game for me! So we better brace ourselves because, while most of us would had done the obvious and had chosen a different heel for that dress, Amal did what Amal does; she takes the fun route, like someone pointed out in a comment. She has FUN with it and i like that! The more i look at these heels and colors (even though i cant never wear such pointing heels and they do look uncomfortable to me no matter what colors they may be), i think she nailed it. She nailed her way of dressing, which are, most of the time, rule breaking. The dress does has a unique design and i think that is why she went for it. After paying more attention to its design, one can see that it is not really the usual wedding-baby-shower dress, it makes a statement and has uniqueness, even though the material looks rather ordinary and conventional.

Her legs… i find them FABULOUS!! And on that note i conclude by saying this:

I REALLY hope that, if nothing else, Amal will continue to shove on the world’s face that she accepts herself and her body as it is, with zeal and unconditional love. She is not at all ashamed to show off some “imperfections” of her skin, shape, proportions. She embraces that she is a overly slim type, she wears her clothing according to the age that is in her soul, she exudes pride of her features and she thinks her body is worthy of the best. That for me, surpasses any and all fashion statements. That also shows me that, no mater how superficial her lavish and expensive dressing taste may convey, there is also the fact that she seems to truly value what she has to offer beyond her skin and her looks.

That is why Amal is not hiding her knee in order to be accepted and loved by all. That is why Amal is not hiding any physical “flaws” from you or anyone.

Such confidence can only come from within.

I am taking note Amal! ❤ Stay REAL.
