  1. Okay, we’re back in business! Dry spell there. Thank goodness they love the paps as much as we do!

Now, George!! Her father is in a suit and tie, the ladies are wearing glamorous frocks…what is it with the jeans and the hanging out shirt?!

She looks great, but the proportions of her hair, head, shoulders, hips and then the umbrella skirt – are all so wrong, it loses fluidity – I love the dress, her makeup, the shoes, her hair, but her hips are tiny and flat and it just looks disconcerting…. the hips look prepubertal.

But here I go with continuing the baby rumours…is that a small tummy bump I see there???

    1. And I want to know why he didn’t take his mom by the hand like that when she was out with them. Also I know baby news will be in the air soon. See my post from 3 outfits ago about the infertility clinic visit .

    2. hahahahahahah you crack me up jon321 hahaha i can almost see many of us little villains behind our computers mastering our fashion guru point of views to vent here hahaha we are certainly saving the world!! 🙂 I do agree with you…interesting observations.. Love this dress…etc…but maybe her hair is a bit too wild there…and George… oh George…i must elaborate separately on that…

      Now..if i only knew what “prepubertal” meant… ha! 😉

    3. To me, the only thing we can say about this outfit is if we think it looks good on her or not. If we think it’s a good choice for the occasion and/or her body type. (She obviously does on all accounts or she wouldn’t have worn it.)

There is no ‘fashion sense’ if you take/copy something straight from the runway. Yesterday’s outfit (beige top/boots/bag & jeans) shows more of her ‘fashion sense’….shows how she puts things together (let’s assume she doesn’t have a stylist and that this look is her own).

Anyone can say they have ‘style’ if they have a stylist or can pull directly from a runway…but real style is how you look when you mix and match….pull things together from different sources….how the colors react to each other….how the fabrics look together….the little quirks that make a look your own.

      1. When I made a similar comment that style is so subjective – it doesn’t get printed. But when someone says something similar, which I agree with, it’s printed. I was told that hateful or racist comments won’t be posted. I am so confused – what are the ground rules?

        Thanks

      2. Dear Sarah, did you like once Amal’s style ? If not, I don’t understand why you write always negative comments. It is more interesting to comment about the people you like.

      3. Hi Sarah,
I think the best way to answer this is that it is Nati’s blog and the rules are Nati’s.

Nati must receive numerous hateful and trolling messages. Understandably, this is her blog and she can elect not to publish them.

Many of my posts have also not been published despite my belief that my comments reflect what the general public’s perceptions of Amal are and that (I feel) I express my opinions in a respectful manner. Nati however has her own standard of appropriateness, and given this is her blog, we have to also respect that.

I do also believe, as I have mentioned before, that the censoring of opinions diverse to Nati’s stifles intelligent debate and commentary on public figures – I do think at times censorship runs the risk of cocooning oneself in the belief that Amal is flawless and should not be held accountable for the image she publicly projects.

My suggestion to Nati is to publish diverse but respectful comments and perhaps allow your readers the opportunity to determine the veracity of offensiveness in their content.

In participating in arbitrary censorship of commentary on this intelligent public female figure, I’m sorry Nati, but I do think you may be contributing to the disequilibrium already created by Amal’s PR team.

But again – your blog. Your rules. I respect that.

      4. May i leave my grain of salt here on this blogs defense. I also read Sarah’s other comments and i think, in my mind and perhaps Nati’s, it is easy to see when someone is genuinely expressing an opinion that is diverse, meaning, sometimes it is uplifting, nice, encouraging and some times just not faking it. Me too i dont always say that i love such or such outfit or Amal’s choices. No, i say what i feel, however, what i feel is not always focusing on the negative. That is what gets boring to read; someone who most of the time focus on the negative side of things. I believe there is ALWAYS something positive to say inside a negative comment. That is what balances things up, Jon321, not to allow comments from people who always are so negative and have never anything good to say. That i dont want to read. I find the balance in the comments of people who are able to balance their comments with nays and yays, because it is impossible to never find anything positive, as it is impossible to never find anything negative. I personally cannot get or enjoy the minds of people who are always focusing on nayness only. Got to balance things up, genuinely, of course. Find at least one positive thing to say…it shouldn’t be that hard for a genuine commentator and not a hater, to do that.

  2. Agree with you on the dress. Don´t like the dress at all, too much “little girl” dress. Her mother is looking more stylish and glamorous

  3. No bump it has been stated she is not thinking about kids right now. George wears what he likes at least it’s not a t shirt. Now its a dress shirt and blazer. He likes to be comfortable and is happy in what he wears. Next month he has a film coming out and premieres so I guess he is enjoying being casual right now.

    1. “Being casual right now”??? What…George likes to dress slovenly unless he just can’t get away with it! Of course, that is his right.

  4. Have you notice in the pic of George escorting Amal’s mother into restaurant….her mother and George look age appropriate as a couple? Amal’s mom now —–is attractive–more so than her.
Heard they were in Italy for a 3 day belated B-day party for Amal? Any pics of that around??

    1. Rose, your comment reminds me of Tiny Fey’s joke when she hosted the Oscars with Amy Poehler back when “Gravity” was up for best picture. “Gravity,” she said, is about how George Clooney “would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman” — Sandra Bullock — “his own age.”

  5. Amal looks beautiful here, but if I was wearing such a short dress/skirt out for dinner*, I would have paired it with opaque black tights, similar to the tights that Amal wore when she was spotted in that Dolce & Gabbana dress at Heathrow last November.

I agree with Kalinka that the dress looks too “little girl.” In fact, it reminds me of cheerleaders’ outfits in high school. All she needs are black and red pom-poms to throw around.

Amal’s parents look great! George is totally under dressed for dinner.

*I wouldn’t wear such a short dress/skirt out for dinner, nor would I wear anything that short publicly anywhere but a beach.

    1. Great gams? Here legs are rather boney and her knee joints are huge. Wish she could put on some weight. Her dresses are far too short for her age and those stick legs. Just sayin’…….my opinion. Perhaps designers can loan George clothes to model…they could help him make an effort.

    2. I like the fact that George doesn’t dress up. If I was going out for a meal, even a very fancy one, I doubt I would dress up to the hilt as much as she does. Something about the way George dressed just spoke of someone who very comfortable within themselves and comfortable with public attention. That’s also why he’s described as down to earth – never really dresses up, always stops for his fans. Amal on the other hand thinks she is on an eternal catwalk. That’s not normal life – not for anyone!

  7. I don’t think the dress is too short she has worn shorter it is her style and if she likes and is comfortable in it good for her. I don’t think they went any where last weekend. George is George and I think Amal loves him just as he is, he has never been into fashion and only dresses up mainly for his work premieres and every now and then a dinner.

    1. I think he is concerned to protect Amal and her mother from the paparazzi. From the videos with the constant camera clicking and flashing and the calling from the photographers, I can see why. It’s incessant and I would find it very difficult to handle. George is used to it but not his wife and family

I do give kudos for any woman who allows her man to dress as they wish…not an easy tasks, right ladies?? Come on..be honest!! Makes her legs looks fabulous (even though think, nevertheless her legs are great!) That is what a heel should always do to the legs – enhance is beauty!

I cant really wrap my head too long on this dress…a minute i love it…the next i am confused where it belongs…maybe it is competing too much with the shoes?? …or is it that Amal chose to copy cat the mannequin and accessories exactly as the mannequin?? …not sure…. so i will leave it alone, with a nice smile, just like Amal 😀

  13. George is wearing Mom jeans! I think if the jeans had a better fit he would look perfectly fine. Amal’s dress, while eye catching, is not the best profile to flatter her. I think because her legs are so long sometimes the short hemlines can look disproportionate.

    1. You might want to qualify that aw with the obvious – one does not need to dress up to ‘look good’. Classic style icon Kate Moss shoes us how to look without looking like you’ve even tried.

Just because it has a designer label doesn’t mean it’s fabulous.
Her hair was quickly done and frizzy.
Amal looks pretty ordinary here. The Valli style suits her much better.
Also loathe the python Gucci booties on same day – again a bad choice.
I would rethink who she really is and get back to work -her stellar career and hard work is being diminished by an aspiration to be a clothes horse – why?
Making a difference in the world is timeless – fashion is date limited, expensive and NOT important.

    1. I don’t think we should assume that she wants “to be a clothes horse”, or that she isn’t working. She works during the day; she also likes to dress up to go out, and can afford a wardrobe. If the paparazzi weren’t always after her, no one would speculate about her choices.
She doesn’t strike me as craving the attention; she walks directly from the car to the restaurant, doesn’t pose, usually with her head slightly down but smiling – being gracious rather than sour about the whole thing. And George seems like he’s running interference, wanting to get the whole ‘public’ part of the evening over with. Makes sense to me.

    1. You know I’ve been thinking about this a lot because it is a sentiment expressed on this blog often. I am not sure human rights practitioners really need to care much about anything beyond the limited confines of their law. It can be quite dry and technical really. Human rights lawyers in the most narrow sense only really care that the the state and public bodies stay within the confines of the law so as not to infringe fundamental rights. There really is no need to care about anything beyond this.
However, the media has hyped up Amal and her own description of her work coupled with George’s comments has made her out to be a kind of selfless campaigner for the disadvantaged. Now that is truly hard to square with somebody who seems to be so incredibly self obsessed, and image focussed. It’s fine in moderation but to this extent it doesn’t tally with the image she has presented of herself (or rather George has). On the other hand, there really is no need for a human rights lawyer to give a flying toss about anyone beyond the legal technicalities.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Great comment! I totally agree. Just because she chose human rights as her specialty, doesn’t mean she needs to be charitable.

      2. In the beginning, I think the GC and his press team went overboard to make AC out to be another Angelina Jolie…but she clearly isn’t (at least right now). She is a lawyer who gets paid to represent clients….clients that may or may not be guilty. That’s her job. It is not her job to determine guilt or innocence. People may or may not like who she represents but everyone is entitled to due process and legal representation.
I think people confuse ‘human rights’ with personal activism. Human rights is simply her legal specialization. She could have just as easily been a divorce lawyer. She does have celebrity now and she does have influence….she may or may not choose to use that to help people. Maybe she is just getting used to all of the craziness. Maybe she will never be outspoken on issues. I guess time will tell. Right now, the celebrity/influence is only helping herself, her career, and her clients.

AC’s wiki page states that she is an activist but there’s no real evidence of that that I can see. She went to a conference once and GC stated that she was ‘saving the world’. I’m sure he is proud of her but they have to be careful about setting expectations high and then the disappointment of people when she doesn’t speak out on certain issues or do some activism. The media will turn on her (as they do with everyone)….they will do anything for readership. So, I think that setting AC up on a pedestal in the beginning may be to her detriment so their press team will have to be more realistic and do some damage control.

To me, right now she seems to just be enjoying her life and the perks that go along with it. There’s nothing wrong with that. We may want her or have expected her to be more proactive but I think that’s because AC/GC and their press team set the public up to expect that. She was introduced to us as the next Angelina Jolie. If they had simply introduced her as a bright lawyer, then she wouldn’t now be a disappointment to some people.

      3. Perfect Italian Bird. I would go one step further to argue the path they have elected speaks volumes about their characters. And unfortunately, it’s not favourable. Hence the public’s dissatisfaction with this couple. They could’ve played this all so differently – I’m sure their PR team came up with a few options from the debutant wedding to their entries on Wikipedia. This approach is backfiring. Even the comments on The Guardian by intelligent people show dissatisfaction with G and A. They need to tone it down and remove the overinflated misleading and activism bits – people DO know the difference between a lawyer just doing her job and an activist.

      4. Good points, IB. I would qualify one of your statements. There really is no such thing as ‘Human Rights Law’. HRL cuts across many legal disciplines. It is possible for HR claims to arise across a varied spectrum of law, so to practise HR law you would need to know the substantive law in other areas.

What Amal has been working on of late is not at all indicative of her earlier practice. She seems to be focussed on what I would call the ‘Amnesty’ style work of correcting historical injustice and freeing certain high profile public figures from prison. If she was a hard-working human rights lawyer, she could be in the High Court right now defending the human rights of a family about to be deported, or the Human Rights of a child being deprived of state support, or the rights of those families suffering under the Housing Benefit cap (UK supreme court heard this recently and the arguments focussed on the UN convention of the rights of the child). In other words, she could be *practising* law, rather than making speeches and writing news articles. To me, she is not acting as a lawyer here, but a legal commentator and campaigner, using her position in the spotlight to help the poor families of these incarcerated individuals. Obviously, that is commendable, but it is not the work of a human rights *lawyer*.

That is why I would say, although I do not expect ‘HR’ barristers – in the loosest sense of the word – to be humanitarian ideals, I would not classify the work Amal is doing as strictly legal. She is, in fact, becoming an activist cloaked under the guise of a lawyer. Which is why people then criticise her for her self-obsessed indulgences!

      5. I completely agree. I too found myself being dissapointed in her then i realised that this mistake was mine. She is a human rights lawyer with expensive tastes and seemingly little or no concern for humanity. That is no fault of hers we are who we are. The mistake was people who made assumptions of who she is. She likes pretty things, money and the law. I have now gone back to adoring angelina jolie who does charity work and donates time and money to the poor. There is no way to justify 10k outfits per day and honestly be concerned about world hunger and poverty. This is not quite a criticsm but a realization

      6. ESR – I stand corrected on the definition of ‘Human Rights Law’. Thanks for clarifying. 🙂

KayKay – I was never a huge Angelina Jolie fan nor was I a hater. I really didn’t have an opinion about her one way or the other but, over the years, I have gained a lot of respect for her. She has done it pretty well too. She obviously has all the material things (e.g. private planes, mansions, designer clothes, etc) but yet people don’t seem to begrudge her for it. She seems to balance things very well….the Oscars one day and in a war torn country the next. I think that would give anyone more perspective. She is very well rounded – I love that.

    2. Because then she’d be Jennifer Robinson, not Amal. 🙂

I think we’ve already established Amal is selective and insensitive with regards to what human rights causes she champions and is not using her international platform to promote anything other than other people’s fashion labels. It is sad.

She has disappointed many of us. The best way I summarise it (to myself this is – so that ‘I’ can ‘cope’ with the contradiction!) is that she works in the area of human rights, but that doesn’t stop her from being being extraordinarily vain, superficial and preoccupied with herself. She is not humble, she is not a true humanitarian. Fashion is placed before human rights.

Now, before everyone goes nuts and claims “do you want her to wear a sac cloth” – let’s think this through logically – first, there is something in between high fashion and sack cloth; and second, irrespective of her choice to model designer’s clothes, she has an equal, if not greater responsibility, in her capacity as a famous person and intelligent human being, to bring attention to causes that can benefit mankind.

By choosing to repeatedly bring attention to her wealth….her legs….her shoes….her dresses…her hair….etc, she diminishes first herself, and second, the causes she alleges to represent. This is why the general public does not respect her.

Now, I don’t respect her as a person or a lawyer either – there are significant issues with the disparity in her wealth and the way she lives her life, to not make her a respectable human being – she is just like a Kardashian in her values. However, I still like looking at her clothes and hold the two thoughts simultaneously so that I can keep rocking up here! We’ve lost some great bloggers who simply couldn’t do that, and that’s understandable also.

      1. And I do sometimes wonder, by dressing ‘down’ is George aware of her lack of humility and need for exhibitionism – and is he trying to balance the act and continue to endear himself to the public, when his wife is struggling to do so?

His PR team I’m sure are working overtime in trying to solve this riddle, given Amal’s propensity to align herself with fashionism as opposed to the original image propagated of humanitarianism.

It is funny.. i dont have these kind of wondering and concerns in my mind, such as what is going on in his mind or her mind, or their PR’s minds… and this and that plot…i think it is such a waste of energy to speculate on such things too much or too deep…. Maybe because that enters a realm which i dont find as exciting; the one of blunt gossiping. I love coming here and getting the news and really enjoy reading others fashion senses and opinions, and even a bit of light gossiping as long as it remains on the surface of my mind and on the surface of their apparent lives. Any diving deeper into speculations shots my interest down. But i guess we are all so different.

She’s so head turning when she steps into Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and several others. I love this beautiful dress on her. I actually like the black strappy heels in the Alexander McQueen runway, better than the Giambattista Valli black heels that Amal is wearing. It’s too much like all the other “everyday” heels. Her mother is so beautiful also. Nice looking parents. Why does George always dress like a bum? The same Levi jeans, chocolate brown and navy pairing? Ugh! And he always wears his shirts wide open. 1. Yes, totally agree Sophie. I think George is completely at ease with himself. You can see that in how he dresses. I’m sure Amal can’t keep up dressing like a catwalk model for ever – she must eventually start wanting to rock the ‘model off duty’ look. So much more sassy and confident to do that, and also just more comfortable! I can’t imagine tottering around on those ridiculous heels all day like she does. Then again, she doesn’t totter – she knows how to rock them!

      3. I’m confused – so because Amal doesn’t have children, it’s ok for her to wear short short skirts and short short dresses? But Tala can’t? I’m not getting it! :/ but doesn’t matter. We all have our biases.
